Josué, sucesor de Moisés
31 De nuevo habló Moisés a todo el pueblo de Israel y dijo: 2 «Ya tengo ciento veinte años y no puedo seguir siendo su líder. Además, el Señor me ha dicho que no voy a cruzar el Jordán, 3 pues ha ordenado que sea Josué quien lo cruce al frente de ustedes. El Señor su Dios marchará al frente de ustedes para destruir a todas las naciones que encuentren a su paso y ustedes se apoderarán de su territorio. 4 El Señor las arrasará como arrasó a Sijón y a Og, los reyes de los amorreos, junto con sus países. 5 Cuando el Señor los entregue en sus manos, ustedes los tratarán según mis órdenes. 6 Sean fuertes y valientes. No teman ni se asusten ante esas naciones, pues el Señor su Dios siempre los acompañará; nunca los dejará ni los abandonará».
7 Llamó entonces Moisés a Josué y en presencia de todo Israel le dijo: «Sé fuerte y valiente, porque tú entrarás con este pueblo a la tierra que el Señor juró dar a sus antepasados. Tú harás que ellos tomen posesión de su herencia. 8 El Señor mismo marchará al frente de ti y estará contigo; nunca te dejará ni te abandonará. No temas ni te desanimes».
La lectura de la ley
9 Moisés escribió esta ley y se la entregó a los sacerdotes levitas que transportaban el arca del pacto del Señor, y a todos los jefes de Israel. 10 Luego ordenó: «Cada siete años, en el año del perdón de deudas, durante la fiesta de las Enramadas, 11 cuando tú, Israel, te presentes ante el Señor tu Dios en el lugar que él habrá de elegir, leerás en voz alta esta ley en presencia de todo Israel. 12 Reunirás a todos los hombres, mujeres y niños de tu pueblo, y a los extranjeros que vivan en tus ciudades, para que escuchen y aprendan a temer al Señor tu Dios, y obedezcan fielmente todas las palabras de esta ley. 13 Y los descendientes de ellos, para quienes esta ley será desconocida, la oirán y aprenderán a temer al Señor tu Dios mientras vivan en la tierra que vas a poseer al otro lado del Jordán».
Predicción de la rebeldía de Israel
14 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Ya se acerca el día de tu muerte. Llama a Josué y preséntate con él en la Tienda de reunión para que reciba mis órdenes». Fue así como Moisés y Josué se presentaron allí.
15 Entonces el Señor apareció a la entrada de la Tienda de reunión, en una columna de nube. 16 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Tú irás a descansar con tus antepasados y muy pronto esta gente me será infiel con los dioses extraños del territorio al que van a entrar. Me abandonarán y quebrantarán el pacto que hice con ellos. 17 Cuando esto haya sucedido, se encenderá mi ira contra ellos y los abandonaré, ocultaré mi rostro y serán presa fácil. Entonces les sobrevendrán muchos desastres y adversidades, y se preguntarán: “¿No es verdad que todos estos desastres nos han sobrevenido porque nuestro Dios ya no está con nosotros?”. 18 Y ese día, sin duda alguna, ocultaré mi rostro, por haber cometido la maldad de irse tras otros dioses.
19 »Escriban, pues, este cántico y enséñenselo al pueblo para que lo cante y sirva también de testimonio contra ellos. 20 Cuando yo conduzca a los israelitas a la tierra que juré dar a sus antepasados, tierra donde abundan la leche y la miel, comerán hasta saciarse y engordarán; se irán tras otros dioses y los adorarán, despreciándome y quebrantando mi pacto. 21 Y cuando les sobrevengan muchos desastres y adversidades, este cántico servirá de testimonio contra ellos porque sus descendientes lo recordarán y lo cantarán. Yo conozco los pensamientos de mi pueblo, aun antes de introducirlo en la tierra que juré darle». 22 Entonces Moisés escribió ese cántico aquel día y se lo enseñó a los israelitas.
23 Y el Señor dio a Josué, hijo de Nun, esta orden: «Sé fuerte y valiente, porque tú conducirás a los israelitas al territorio que juré darles y yo mismo estaré contigo».
24 Moisés terminó de escribir en un libro todas las palabras de esta ley. 25 Luego dio esta orden a los levitas que transportaban el arca del pacto del Señor: 26 «Tomen este libro de la Ley y pónganlo junto al arca del pacto del Señor su Dios. Allí permanecerá como testigo contra ustedes los israelitas, 27 pues sé cuán tercos y rebeldes son. Si fueron rebeldes contra el Señor mientras viví con ustedes, ¡cuánto más lo serán después de mi muerte! 28 Reúnan ante mí a todos los jefes y los oficiales de sus tribus, para que yo pueda comunicarles estas palabras y las escuchen claramente. Pongo al cielo y a la tierra por testigos contra ellos, 29 porque sé que después de mi muerte se pervertirán y se apartarán del camino que les he mandado. En el futuro les sobrevendrán calamidades, porque harán lo que ofende al Señor y con sus detestables actos provocarán su ira».
El cántico de Moisés
30 Y este fue el cántico que recitó Moisés de principio a fin, en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel:

Joshua to Succeed Moses
31 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2 “I am now a hundred and twenty years old(A) and I am no longer able to lead you.(B) The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’(C) 3 The Lord your God himself will cross(D) over ahead of you.(E) He will destroy these nations(F) before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross(G) over ahead of you, as the Lord said. 4 And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og,(H) the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. 5 The Lord will deliver(I) them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and courageous.(J) Do not be afraid or terrified(K) because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;(L) he will never leave you(M) nor forsake(N) you.”
7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said(O) to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them,(P) and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;(Q) he will never leave you nor forsake you.(R) Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Public Reading of the Law
9 So Moses wrote(S) down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried(T) the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. 10 Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts,(U) during the Festival of Tabernacles,(V) 11 when all Israel comes to appear(W) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose,(X) you shall read this law(Y) before them in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn(Z) to fear(AA) the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. 13 Their children,(AB) who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Israel’s Rebellion Predicted
14 The Lord said to Moses, “Now the day of your death(AC) is near. Call Joshua(AD) and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, where I will commission him.(AE)” So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.(AF)
15 Then the Lord appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the tent.(AG) 16 And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors,(AH) and these people will soon prostitute(AI) themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake(AJ) me and break the covenant I made with them. 17 And in that day I will become angry(AK) with them and forsake(AL) them; I will hide(AM) my face(AN) from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters(AO) and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’(AP) 18 And I will certainly hide my face in that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.
19 “Now write(AQ) down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness(AR) for me against them. 20 When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their ancestors,(AS) and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods(AT) and worship them,(AU) rejecting me and breaking my covenant.(AV) 21 And when many disasters and calamities come on them,(AW) this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do,(AX) even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.” 22 So Moses wrote(AY) down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.
23 The Lord gave this command(AZ) to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous,(BA) for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”
24 After Moses finished writing(BB) in a book the words of this law(BC) from beginning to end, 25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried(BD) the ark of the covenant of the Lord: 26 “Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.(BE) 27 For I know how rebellious(BF) and stiff-necked(BG) you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! 28 Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them.(BH) 29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt(BI) and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster(BJ) will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the Lord and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.”

30 And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel:

31 摩西去把这些话吩咐以色列众人[a]， 2 对他们说：“我已经一百二十岁了，现在不能照常出入。耶和华曾对我说：‘你不得过这约旦河。’ 3 耶和华—你的 神必在你面前过河，把这些国从你面前除灭，你就必得他们的地。约书亚要在你面前过河，是照耶和华所吩咐的。 4 耶和华必对待他们，如同从前待他所除灭的亚摩利人的王西宏与噩，以及他们的国一样。 5 耶和华必将他们交在你们面前，你们要照我所吩咐的一切命令待他们。 6 你们当刚强壮胆，不要害怕，也不要畏惧他们，因为耶和华—你的 神必与你同去；他必不撇下你，也不丢弃你。”
7 摩西召了约书亚来，在以色列众人眼前对他说：“你当刚强壮胆！因为你要和这百姓一同进入[b]耶和华向他们列祖起誓要给他们的地，你也要使他们承受那地为业。 8 耶和华必在你前面行，他必亲自与你同在，必不撇下你，也不丢弃你。你不要惧怕，也不要惊惶。”
每七年要诵读律法一次
9 摩西写下这律法，交给抬耶和华约柜的利未人祭司和以色列的众长老。 10 摩西吩咐他们说：“每逢七年的最后一年，就是定期的豁免年，在住棚节的时候， 11 当以色列众人来到耶和华—你 神所选择的地方朝见他的时候，你要在以色列众人面前念这律法给他们听。 12 要召集百姓，男人、女人、孩子，和在你城里寄居的，叫他们都得以听见，好学习敬畏耶和华—你们的 神，谨守遵行这律法的一切话。 13 他们的儿女，就是那未曾认识的，也可以听，学习敬畏耶和华—你们的 神；你们一生的日子，在你们过约旦河得为业的地上，都要这样做。”
对摩西最后的指示
14 耶和华对摩西说：“看哪，你的死期已近了。要召约书亚来，和你一起站在会幕里，我好吩咐他。”于是摩西和约书亚去站在会幕里。 15 耶和华在会幕里，在云柱中显现，云柱停在会幕门口的上面。
16 耶和华对摩西说：“看哪，你必和你的祖先同睡。这百姓要起来，在他们所要去的地上，在那地的人中，随从外邦的神明行淫，离弃我，违背我与他们所立的约。 17 那时，我的怒气必向他们发作，我必离弃他们，转脸不顾他们，以致他们被吞灭，并有许多的祸患灾难临到他们。在那日，人必说：‘这些祸患临到我，岂不是因为我的 神不在我中间吗？’ 18 在那日，因人偏向别神所行的一切恶事，我必定转脸不顾。 19 现在你们要写下这首歌，教导以色列人，放在他们口中，使这首歌成为我指责以色列人的见证。 20 因为我将他们领进我向他们列祖起誓应许那流奶与蜜之地，他们在那里吃得饱足，长得肥胖，就偏向别神，事奉它们，藐视我，背弃我的约。 21 当许多祸患灾难临到他们的时候，这首歌必在他们面前作见证，因为他们后裔的口必吟诵不忘。我未领他们到我所起誓应许之地以先，他们所怀的意念我都知道了。” 22 当日摩西就写了一首歌，教导以色列人。
23 耶和华吩咐嫩的儿子约书亚说：“你当刚强壮胆，因为你必领以色列人进入我所起誓应许他们的地，我必与你同在。” 24 当摩西把这律法的话写完在书上，到完成的时候， 25 摩西吩咐抬耶和华约柜的利未人说： 26 “把这律法书拿来，放在耶和华—你们 神的约柜旁，可以在那里作指责你们的见证。 27 因为我知道你们是悖逆的，是硬着颈项的。看哪，我今日还活着与你们同在，你们尚且悖逆耶和华，何况我死后呢？ 28 你们要召集你们支派的众长老和官长到我这里来，我好把这些话说给他们听，并且呼唤天地见证他们的不是。 29 我知道我死后你们必全然败坏，偏离我所吩咐你们的道。日后必有祸患临到你们，因为你们做了耶和华眼中看为恶的事，以你们手中所做的惹他发怒。”
