3 1-7 »Después de esto, nos dirigimos a Basán, pero tomamos otro camino. Cuando llegamos a Edrei, Og, que era rey de Basán, salió con su ejército para atacarnos. Dios me dijo que no le tuviéramos miedo, pues él nos daría la victoria.
»Atacamos a Og, y Dios nos permitió vencerlo; de su ejército no dejamos a nadie con vida. En la región de Argob destruimos las sesenta ciudades de su reino. Todas ellas estaban bien protegidas con muros muy altos y con portones cerrados con barras de hierro. También destruimos los pueblos menos protegidos, y nos quedamos con sus animales y objetos de valor.
8 »Así fue como en esos días nos apoderamos de los territorios de los dos reyes amorreos, los cuales reinaban al este del río Jordán, desde el río Arnón hasta el monte Hermón. 9 Los sidonios conocían este monte con el nombre de monte Sirión, pero los amorreos lo llamaban Senir.

Debían marchar al frente de las tribus que aún no tenían su propio territorio, pues Dios les daría uno. 19 A las mujeres y a los niños les pedí que se quedaran en las ciudades que ya les había dado, junto con el ganado que tenían, pues era mucho. 20 Ninguno de los hombres debía volver hasta que el resto de las tribus tuviera su territorio. Así también ellas podrían vivir con tranquilidad en el territorio que Dios les daría al otro lado del río Jordán.
21-22 »A Josué le dije que no tuviera miedo, pues había sido testigo de cómo Dios venció a aquellos dos reyes. También le dije que Dios lo haría vencer a todos los reinos por los que tuviera que pasar, porque Dios mismo pelearía por los israelitas.

23 »Entonces le rogué a Dios:
24 “He visto tu grandeza y tu poder.
Ni en el cielo ni en la tierra
hay otro Dios como tú,
que pueda hacer tantas maravillas.
25 Permíteme cruzar el río Jordán.

Defeat of Og of Bashan
3 ‘Then we turned and went up the road to Bashan, and King Og of Bashan(A) came out against us with his whole army to do battle at Edrei.(B) 2 But the Lord said to me, “Do not fear him, for I have handed him over to you along with his whole army and his land. Do to him as you did to King Sihon of the Amorites,(C) who lived in Heshbon.” 3 So the Lord our God also handed over King Og of Bashan and his whole army to us. We struck him until there was no survivor left.(D) 4 We captured all his cities at that time. There wasn’t a city that we didn’t take from them: sixty cities, the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, besides a large number of rural villages. 6 We completely destroyed them, as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon, destroying the men, women, and children of every city. 7 But we took all the livestock and the spoil from the cities as plunder for ourselves.(E)
The Land of the Transjordan Tribes
8 ‘At that time we took the land from the two Amorite kings across the Jordan,(F) from the Arnon Valley as far as Mount Hermon, 9 which the Sidonians call Sirion, but the Amorites call Senir, 10 all the cities of the plateau, Gilead, and Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of Og’s kingdom in Bashan.(G) 11 (Only King Og of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim.(H) His bed[a] was made of iron. Isn’t it in Rabbah of the Ammonites?(I) It is 4 metres long and 1.8 metres wide by a standard measure.[b])(J)
12 ‘At that time we took possession of this land.(K) I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites the area extending from Aroer by the Arnon Valley, and half the hill country of Gilead along with its cities. 13 I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh the rest of Gilead and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og. The entire region of Argob, the whole territory of Bashan, used to be called the land of the Rephaim. 14 Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took over the entire region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites. He called Bashan by his own name, Jair’s Villages,[c] as it is today. 15 I gave Gilead to Machir, 16 and I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites the area extending from Gilead to the Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the River Jabbok, the border of the Ammonites. 17 The Arabah and Jordan are also borders from Chinnereth[d] as far as the Sea of the Arabah, the Dead Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah on the east.(L)
18 ‘I commanded you at that time: The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. All your valiant men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites. 19 But your wives, dependents, and livestock – I know that you have a lot of livestock – will remain in the cities I have given you(M) 20 until the Lord gives rest(N) to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving them across the Jordan. Then each of you may return to his possession that I have given you.(O)
The Transfer of Israel’s Leadership
21 ‘I commanded Joshua at that time: Your own eyes have seen everything the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter. 22 Don’t be afraid of them, for the Lord your God fights for you.
23 ‘At that time I begged the Lord: 24 Lord God, you have begun to show your greatness and your strong hand to your servant, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can perform deeds and mighty acts like yours? 25 Please let me cross over and see the beautiful land(P) on the other side of the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon.
26 ‘But the Lord was angry with me because of you[e] and would not listen to me. The Lord said to me, “That’s enough! Do not speak to me again about this matter. 27 Go to the top of Pisgah and look to the west, north, south, and east, and see it with your own eyes, for you will not cross the Jordan.(Q) 28 But commission Joshua and encourage and strengthen him, for he will cross over ahead of the people and enable them to inherit this land that you will see.”(R) 29 So we stayed in the valley facing Beth-peor.

3 “Then we turned and went up the road to Bashan; and (B)Og king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle (C)at Edrei. 2 And the Lord said to me, ‘Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hand; you shall do to him as you did to (D)Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.’
3 “So the Lord our God also delivered into our hands Og king of Bashan, with all his people, and we [a]attacked him until he had no survivors remaining. 4 And we took all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them: sixty cities, (E)all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, besides a great many rural towns. 6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king (F)of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children of every city. 7 But all the livestock and the spoil of the cities we took as booty for ourselves.
8 “And at that time we took the (G)land from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were on this side of the Jordan, from the River Arnon to Mount (H)Hermon 9 (the Sidonians call (I)Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir), 10 (J)all the cities of the plain, all Gilead, and (K)all Bashan, as far as Salcah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
11 (L)“For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of (M)the [b]giants. Indeed his bedstead was an iron bedstead. (Is it not in (N)Rabbah of the people of Ammon?) Nine cubits is its length and four cubits its width, according to the standard cubit.
The Land East of the Jordan Divided(O)
12 “And this (P)land, which we possessed at that time, (Q)from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, and half the mountains of Gilead and (R)its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and the Gadites. 13 (S)The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh. (All the region of Argob, with all Bashan, was called the land of the [c]giants. 14 (T)Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob, (U)as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and (V)called Bashan after his own name, [d]Havoth Jair, to this day.)
15 “Also I gave (W)Gilead to Machir. 16 And to the Reubenites (X)and the Gadites I gave from Gilead as far as the River Arnon, the middle of the river as the border, as far as the River Jabbok, (Y)the border of the people of Ammon; 17 the plain also, with the Jordan as the border, from Chinnereth (Z)as far as the east side of the Sea of the Arabah (AA)(the Salt Sea), below the slopes of Pisgah.
18 “Then I commanded you at that time, saying: ‘The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. (AB)All you men of valor shall cross over armed before your brethren, the children of Israel. 19 But your wives, your little ones, and your livestock (I know that you have much livestock) shall stay in your cities which I have given you, 20 until the Lord has given (AC)rest to your brethren as to you, and they also possess the land which the Lord your God is giving them beyond the Jordan. Then each of you may (AD)return to his possession which I have given you.’
21 “And (AE)I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, ‘Your eyes have seen all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings; so will the Lord do to all the kingdoms through which you pass. 22 You must not fear them, for (AF)the Lord your God Himself fights for you.’
Moses Forbidden to Enter the Land
23 “Then (AG)I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying: 24 ‘O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant (AH)Your greatness and Your [e]mighty hand, for (AI)what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds? 25 I pray, let me cross over and see (AJ)the good land beyond the Jordan, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.’
26 “But the Lord (AK)was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me. So the Lord said to me: ‘Enough of that! Speak no more to Me of this matter. 27 (AL)Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift your eyes toward the west, the north, the south, and the east; behold it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan. 28 But (AM)command[f] Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’
29 “So we stayed in (AN)the valley opposite Beth Peor.

3 Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan(A) with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei.(B) 2 The Lord said to me, “Do not be afraid(C) of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.”
3 So the Lord our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down,(D) leaving no survivors.(E) 4 At that time we took all his cities.(F) There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og’s kingdom(G) in Bashan.(H) 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages. 6 We completely destroyed[a] them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying[b](I) every city—men, women and children. 7 But all the livestock(J) and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves.
8 So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites(K) the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.(L) 9 (Hermon is called Sirion(M) by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.)(N) 10 We took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salekah(O) and Edrei, towns of Og’s kingdom in Bashan. 11 (Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites.(P) His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide.[c] It is still in Rabbah(Q) of the Ammonites.)
Division of the Land
12 Of the land that we took over at that time, I gave the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory north of Aroer(R) by the Arnon Gorge, including half the hill country of Gilead, together with its towns. 13 The rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh.(S) (The whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites.(T) 14 Jair,(U) a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maakathites;(V) it was named(W) after him, so that to this day Bashan is called Havvoth Jair.[d]) 15 And I gave Gilead to Makir.(X) 16 But to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the territory extending from Gilead down to the Arnon Gorge (the middle of the gorge being the border) and out to the Jabbok River,(Y) which is the border of the Ammonites. 17 Its western border was the Jordan in the Arabah,(Z) from Kinnereth(AA) to the Sea of the Arabah(AB) (that is, the Dead Sea(AC)), below the slopes of Pisgah.
18 I commanded you at that time: “The Lord your God has given(AD) you this land to take possession of it. But all your able-bodied men, armed for battle, must cross over ahead of the other Israelites.(AE) 19 However, your wives,(AF) your children and your livestock(AG) (I know you have much livestock) may stay in the towns I have given you, 20 until the Lord gives rest to your fellow Israelites as he has to you, and they too have taken over the land that the Lord your God is giving them across the Jordan. After that, each of you may go back to the possession I have given you.”

21 At that time I commanded Joshua: “You have seen with your own eyes all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms over there where you are going. 22 Do not be afraid(AH) of them;(AI) the Lord your God himself will fight(AJ) for you.”
23 At that time I pleaded(AK) with the Lord: 24 “Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness(AL) and your strong hand. For what god(AM) is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works(AN) you do?(AO) 25 Let me go over and see the good land(AP) beyond the Jordan—that fine hill country and Lebanon.(AQ)”
26 But because of you the Lord was angry(AR) with me and would not listen to me. “That is enough,” the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter. 27 Go up to the top of Pisgah(AS) and look west and north and south and east.(AT) Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross(AU) this Jordan.(AV) 28 But commission(AW) Joshua, and encourage(AX) and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across(AY) and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.” 29 So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.(AZ)
