Las ciudades de refugio (Nm 35,9-28; Jos 20,1-9)
19 Cuando el Señor tu Dios haya aniquilado a las naciones cuya tierra va a darte en posesión, cuando tú las hayas derrotado y te encuentres ya instalado en sus ciudades y en sus casas, 2 escoge tres ciudades en medio de la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te dará en posesión. 3 Dividirás en tres regiones el territorio que el Señor tu Dios te dará en heredad, y abrirás caminos que faciliten el acceso a esas ciudades, para que allí pueda encontrar asilo el que haya cometido un homicidio. 4 Pero únicamente podrá refugiarse allí y salvar la vida aquel que haya matado a otro involuntariamente, sin existir enemistad entre ellos. 5 Supongamos que un hombre se va con otro al bosque a cortar leña y al blandir en su mano el hacha para cortar un árbol, se separa el hierro del mango y golpea a su prójimo matándolo; ese hombre podrá buscar refugio en una de esas ciudades y ponerse a salvo. 6 Es conveniente que la distancia a esa ciudad no sea excesiva para evitar que el vengador del delito de sangre persiga encolerizado al homicida, le dé alcance y lo mate, cuando en realidad no merecía la muerte, puesto que no existía enemistad entre ellos. 7 Por eso te ordeno que escojas tres ciudades.
8 Y si el Señor tu Dios ensancha tu territorio, como se lo juró a tus antepasados, y te da toda la tierra que les prometió 9 —con tal que cumplas cuidadosamente todos los mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy, amando al Señor tu Dios y siguiendo sus caminos toda la vida—, entonces, a esas tres ciudades añadirás otras tres. 10 De este modo no se derramará sangre inocente en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te va a dar en posesión, y tú no serás responsable de esa muerte.
11 Pero si un hombre que está enemistado con otro le sigue los pasos, lo ataca, lo mata y luego huye buscando refugio en una de estas ciudades, 12 los ancianos de dicha ciudad lo mandarán sacar de allí y lo entregarán en manos del vengador del delito de sangre para que lo mate. 13 No tendrás compasión de él pues, si quieres que te vaya bien, debes evitar que se derrame sangre inocente en Israel.
14 Cuando ocupes la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te va a dar en posesión, no muevas los mojones de tu prójimo que fueron colocados en tiempos pasados.
Leyes sobre los testigos
15 Un solo testigo no será suficiente para probar la culpabilidad de alguien acusado de cometer algún crimen o delito. Hará falta la declaración de dos o tres testigos para fallar una causa.
16 Si un falso testigo acusa a alguien de un crimen, 17 los dos contendientes en la causa se presentarán ante el Señor y ante los sacerdotes y jueces que estén en funciones en esos días. 18 Los jueces estudiarán el caso minuciosamente, y si descubren que el testigo mintió declarando en falso contra su hermano, 19 le aplicarán la pena que él pretendía para su hermano. Así extirparás el mal de en medio de ti. 20 Los demás, cuando se enteren, escarmentarán y no se atreverán a cometer maldad semejante en medio de ti. 21 No tengas compasión del culpable: vida por vida, ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie.

19 När Herren, din Gud, har utrotat de hednafolk vilkas land Herren, din Gud, ger dig, och när du har fördrivit dem och du bor i deras städer och i deras hus, 2 då skall du avskilja åt dig tre städer mitt i ditt land, som Herren, din Gud, ger dig till besittning. 3 Du skall rusta upp vägarna till dessa städer och dela upp det landområde som Herren, din Gud, ger dig till arvedel i tre delar, så att var och en som har dräpt någon kan fly dit.
4 I följande fall kan den som har dräpt någon fly till en fristad och så få leva: Om någon dödar sin nästa utan vett och vilja och utan att ha burit hat till honom tidigare - 5 som när någon går med sin vän ut i skogen för att hugga ved och han hugger med yxan för att fälla trädet och yxhuvudet då lossnar från skaftet och träffar den andre så att han dör - då skall han kunna fly till någon av dessa städer och få leva. 6 Annars kan blodshämnaren som med vrede i sitt hjärta förföljer dråparen hinna upp honom om vägen är lång, och slå ihjäl honom, fastän han inte hade förtjänat döden, eftersom han inte hade hatat den andre tidigare. 7 Därför befaller jag dig: "Du skall avskilja tre städer åt dig."
8 När Herren, din Gud, utvidgar ditt område, så som han med ed har svurit dina fäder, och ger dig hela det land som han har lovat att ge dina fäder, 9 om du då är noga med att följa alla dessa bud som jag i dag ger dig, så att du älskar Herren, din Gud, och alltid vandrar på hans vägar, då skall du lägga tre städer till dessa tre. 10 Så skall oskyldigt blod inte utgjutas i ditt land, det som Herren, din Gud, ger dig till arvedel, och blodskuld inte komma att vila på dig.
11 Men om någon hatar sin nästa och ligger på lur efter honom och överfaller honom och slår ihjäl honom, och han sedan flyr till någon av dessa städer, 12 då skall de äldste i hans stad sända bud och hämta honom därifrån och lämna honom i blodshämnarens hand, och han skall dö. 13 Du skall inte visa honom någon skonsamhet, utan du skall rena Israel från skulden för det oskyldiga blodet och det skall gå dig väl.
Råmärken
14 Du skall inte flytta din nästas råmärke, som förfäderna satt upp i den arvedel du får i det land som Herren, din Gud, ger dig till besittning.
Vittnesmål
15 Det är inte nog om bara ett vittne träder upp mot någon som anklagas för ett brott eller en synd, vilken synd han än kan ha begått. Efter två eller tre vittnens utsago skall var sak avgöras.
16 Om ett falskt vittne träder upp mot någon för att vittna mot honom angående något brott, 17 skall bägge parter i tvisten träda fram inför Herrens ansikte, inför de män som på den tiden är präster och domare. 18 Och domarna skall noga undersöka saken. Om vittnet visar sig vara ett falskt vittne som burit falskt vittnesbörd mot sin broder, 19 skall ni låta detsamma drabba vittnet som han hade tänkt för sin broder. Du skall skaffa bort det onda ifrån dig. 20 Det övriga folket skall höra det och frukta, och man skall aldrig mer göra något sådant ont hos dig. 21 Du skall inte visa honom någon skonsamhet: liv för liv, öga för öga, tand för tand, hand för hand, fot för fot.

19 When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
4 And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
8 And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
