18 1-2 Moisés continuó diciendo:
«Todos los israelitas van a tener sus propias tierras, pero no así los sacerdotes; es decir, los de la tribu de Leví. Dios ha decidido cuidar de ellos y darles siempre todo lo que necesiten. Así que ellos tomarán sus alimentos de todas las ofrendas que los israelitas le presenten a Dios.
3 »Los sacerdotes podrán comer la carne de los toros y los corderos que se ofrezcan a Dios, pero de ellos sólo podrán comer la espaldilla, la quijada y una parte de la barriga. 4 Además, podrán tomar del trigo de las primeras cosechas, y del vino y del aceite, y también podrán utilizar la primera lana que se corte de las ovejas. 5 Nuestro Dios ha elegido a la tribu de Leví y a todos sus descendientes, para que se encarguen de los cultos en su honor.
6 »Si algún sacerdote siente el deseo de ir al Santuario, y abandona su propia ciudad, no se lo impidan. 7 Al contrario, ayúdenlo a llegar y a cumplir con su trabajo, como sus otros compañeros que ya trabajan en el Santuario. 8 Ese sacerdote tendrá derecho a recibir la misma cantidad de alimentos que los otros sacerdotes, y podrá también vender sus pertenencias y disfrutar del dinero de la venta».

9-14 Moisés continuó diciéndoles:
«Cuando entren al territorio que Dios va a darles, se encontrarán con que la gente que allí vive, tiene costumbres terribles, que no agradan a Dios. Por ejemplo, esa gente entrega a sus hijos para quemarlos en honor de sus dioses, practica la brujería y la hechicería, y cree que puede adivinar el futuro. Además de sus brujerías, consultan a los espíritus de los muertos para pedirles consejo. Pero ustedes deben obedecer a nuestro Dios en todo, y tener cuidado de no seguir el mal ejemplo de esa gente, pues nuestro Dios la odia y por eso quiere sacarla de esa tierra.

15-17 »Un día, nuestro Dios escogerá de entre ustedes a un hombre, que será profeta como yo. Cuando estábamos en el monte Horeb, ustedes me dijeron que no querían escuchar la voz de Dios, ni ver el fuego desde donde Dios hablaba, pues no querían morir. Pues bien, nuestro Dios les dará el profeta que pidieron, y ustedes deberán obedecerlo en todo.
18 »Dios elegirá ese profeta de entre el pueblo. Será uno de los nuestros, y hará lo mismo que ahora hago; es decir, les comunicará todo lo que Dios quiera decirles. 19 Dios castigará a quien no obedezca las órdenes que dé por medio de ese profeta.
20 »Si aparece alguno que diga traer un mensaje de parte de Dios, y que en realidad no haya sido enviado por él, deberán matarlo. Lo mismo deberán hacer con cualquier profeta que aparezca con mensajes de otros dioses.
21 »Ahora bien, si ustedes se preguntan cómo saber si una persona trae o no un mensaje de parte de Dios, sigan este consejo: 22 Si el profeta anuncia algo y no sucede lo que dijo, será señal de que Dios no lo envió. Ese profeta no es más que un orgulloso que habla por su propia cuenta, y ustedes no deberán tenerle miedo».

18 The Levitical priests and all the tribe of Levi shall have no part or inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings made by fire to the Lord, and His rightful dues.
2 They shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord is their inheritance, as He promised them.
3 And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder and the two cheeks and the stomach.
4 The firstfruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first or best of the fleece of your sheep you shall give the priest.
5 For the Lord your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name [and presence] of the Lord, him and his sons forever.
6 And if a Levite comes from any of your towns out of all Israel where he is a temporary resident, he may come whenever he desires to [the sanctuary] the place the Lord will choose;
7 Then he may minister in the name [and presence of] the Lord his God like all his brethren the Levites who stand to minister there before the Lord.
8 They shall have equal portions to eat, besides what may come of the sale of his patrimony.(A)
9 When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of these nations.
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer,
11 Or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and it is because of these abominable practices that the Lord your God is driving them out before you.
13 You shall be blameless [and absolutely true] to the Lord your God.
14 For these nations whom you shall dispossess listen to soothsayers and diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.
15 The Lord your God will raise up for you [a]a prophet (Prophet) from the midst of your brethren like me [Moses]; to him you shall listen.(B)
16 This is what you desired [and asked] of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.
17 And the Lord said to me, They have well said all that they have spoken.
18 I will raise up for them a prophet (Prophet) from among their brethren like you, and will put My words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
19 And whoever will not hearken to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.
21 And if you say in your [minds and] hearts, How shall we know which words the Lord has not spoken?
22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or prove true, that is a word which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

- Deuteronomy 18:15 The insertion of this promise in connection with the preceding prohibition might warrant the application which some make of it to that order of true prophets whom God commissioned in unbroken succession to instruct, to direct, and warn His people; in this view the gist of it is, “there is no need to consult with diviners and soothsayers, for I shall afford you the benefit of divinely appointed prophets, for judging of whose identity a sure clue is given” (Deut. 18:20, 22). But the prophet here promised was preeminently the Messiah, for He alone was “like unto Moses in His mediatorial character; in the peculiar excellence of His ministry; in the number, variety, and magnitude of His miracles; in His close and familiar communion with God; and in His being the author of a new dispensation of religion.” This prediction was fulfilled 1,500 years afterwards, and was expressly applied to Christ by Peter (Acts 3:22, 23) and by Stephen (Acts 7:37) (Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown, A Commentary).

Offerings for Priests and Levites
18 The Levitical(A) priests—indeed, the whole tribe of Levi—are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the food offerings(B) presented to the Lord, for that is their inheritance.(C) 2 They shall have no inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance,(D) as he promised them.(E)
3 This is the share due the priests(F) from the people who sacrifice a bull(G) or a sheep: the shoulder, the internal organs and the meat from the head.(H) 4 You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep,(I) 5 for the Lord your God has chosen them(J) and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister(K) in the Lord’s name always.(L)
6 If a Levite moves from one of your towns anywhere in Israel where he is living, and comes in all earnestness to the place the Lord will choose,(M) 7 he may minister in the name(N) of the Lord his God like all his fellow Levites who serve there in the presence of the Lord. 8 He is to share equally in their benefits, even though he has received money from the sale of family possessions.(O)
Occult Practices
9 When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate(P) the detestable ways(Q) of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire,(R) who practices divination(S) or sorcery,(T) interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,(U) 11 or casts spells,(V) or who is a medium or spiritist(W) or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.(X) 13 You must be blameless(Y) before the Lord your God.(Z)
The Prophet
14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination.(AA) But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites.(AB) You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”(AC)
17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet(AD) like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words(AE) in his mouth.(AF) He will tell them everything I command him.(AG) 19 I myself will call to account(AH) anyone who does not listen(AI) to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.(AJ) 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods,(AK) is to be put to death.”(AL)
21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true,(AM) that is a message the Lord has not spoken.(AN) That prophet has spoken presumptuously,(AO) so do not be alarmed.
