17 No inmolarás al Señor tu Dios ningún toro u oveja que tenga algún defecto o falta, porque eso sería una abominación para el Señor tu Dios.
2 Puede suceder que en alguna de las ciudades que el Señor tu Dios te da, un hombre o una mujer hagan lo que desagrada al Señor, quebrantando su alianza 3 y practicando lo que yo prohibí, al dar culto y postrarse ante otros dioses, o ante el sol, la luna o el ejército del cielo; 4 si te denuncian el hecho o te enteras del particular, deberás hacer una investigación minuciosa y, si se confirma que se ha cometido tal abominación en Israel, 5 llevarás a las puertas de la ciudad al hombre o la mujer que cometió tal delito y los apedrearás hasta que mueran.
6 Para que alguien sea condenado a muerte es necesaria la declaración de dos o más testigos; no se le podrá condenar a muerte por el testimonio de un solo testigo. 7 Los primeros en ejecutar el castigo serán los testigos, y luego los seguirá el resto del pueblo. Así extirparás el mal de en medio de ti.
Tribunal del Templo
8 Si en tu ciudad se da un caso que para ti resulta demasiado difícil de juzgar, tal como homicidio, pleito, violencia u otro asunto grave, irás al lugar que el Señor tu Dios haya escogido 9 y expondrás el caso a los sacerdotes levitas y al juez de turno, los cuales te indicarán cómo habrás de resolverlo. 10 Actuarás según la sentencia dictada por los del lugar escogido por el Señor. Sigue al pie de la letra lo que te digan. 11 Procederás de acuerdo a su veredicto y siguiendo sus instrucciones en cada detalle. 12 El que por soberbia desobedezca el veredicto dado por el sacerdote o por el juez que están allí sirviendo al Señor tu Dios, será condenado a muerte. Así extirparás el mal de Israel. 13 Y cuando el pueblo se entere, sentirá temor y nadie volverá a actuar con arrogancia.
Prescripciones sobre el rey
14 Si una vez que hayas entrado en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da, la hayas conquistado y ya estés establecido allí, dices: “Quiero tener un rey como lo tienen todas las naciones vecinas”, 15 te nombrarás como rey aquel a quien el Señor tu Dios escoja. El rey deberá pertenecer a tu mismo pueblo; no harás rey a un extranjero, a alguien que no sea de los tuyos. 16 El rey no deberá poseer una caballería numerosa ni hacer que el pueblo vuelva a Egipto para adquirir más caballos, pues el Señor dijo: “No vuelvan más por ese camino”. 17 Tampoco tendrá muchas mujeres para que no se descarríe su corazón, ni acumulará oro y plata en cantidad excesiva. 18 Cuando el rey tome posesión del trono real, mandará que le hagan una copia del Libro de la Ley que está al cuidado de los sacerdotes levitas. 19 La llevará siempre consigo y la leerá todos los días de su vida para que aprenda a respetar al Señor su Dios, observando todos los preceptos de esta ley y poniendo en práctica sus prescripciones, 20 de modo que no se crea superior a sus hermanos ni se aparte lo más mínimo de esta ley. Así, tanto él como sus descendientes tendrán un largo reinado en Israel.

17 Du skall inte offra åt Herren, din Gud, något djur av nötboskapen eller av småboskapen som har något lyte eller annat fel, för sådant är avskyvärt för Herren, din Gud.
2 Om en man eller kvinna hos dig i någon av de städer som Herren, din Gud, ger dig, visar sig göra något som är ont i Herrens, din Guds, ögon, genom att överträda hans förbund, 3 och mot min befallning går bort och tjänar andra gudar och tillber dem eller tillber solen, månen eller himlens hela härskara, 4 och detta blir berättat för dig och du får höra om det, skall du noga undersöka saken. Om det visar sig vara sant och kan slås fast att detta avskyvärda har förövats i Israel, 5 skall du föra ut till din stadsport den man eller kvinna som har gjort denna onda gärning - det må vara man eller kvinna - och stena den personen till döds. 6 Efter två eller tre vittnens utsago skall han dödas. Ingen skall dömas till döden efter endast ett vittnesmål. 7 Först skall vittnenas hand lyftas mot honom för att döda honom och sedan hela folkets hand. Du skall skaffa bort det onda från dig.
Domstolsförfarande
8 Om det i något fall blir för svårt för dig att döma, det må gälla ett dråp, en rättsfråga, ett misshandelsbrott eller något annat som kan orsaka tvist inom dina portar, då skall du stå upp och bege dig till den plats som Herren, din Gud, utväljer 9 och gå till de levitiska prästerna och till den som på den tiden är domare. Dem skall du fråga till råds och de skall meddela dig vad som är rätt. 10 Du skall göra det de meddelar dig på den plats som Herren utväljer, och du skall noggrant följa allt som de lär dig. 11 Efter den lag de undervisar dig i och efter den dom de avkunnar för dig skall du handla. Du skall inte vika av från de ord de meddelar, vare sig till höger eller vänster. 12 Men om någon handlar så förmätet att han varken vill lyssna till prästen, som står där och gör tjänst inför Herren, din Gud, eller till domaren, då skall den mannen dö. Du skall skaffa bort det onda från Israel. 13 Allt folket skall höra det och frukta och inte mer handla förmätet.
Val av kung
14 När du kommer in i det land som Herren, din Gud, ger dig och tar det i besittning och bor där och du säger: "Jag vill sätta en kung över mig, liksom alla hednafolk omkring mig", 15 så skall du till kung över dig sätta den som Herren, din Gud, utväljer. En av dina bröder skall du sätta till kung över dig. Du får inte sätta en främling över dig, en som inte är din broder. 16 Men han får inte skaffa sig många hästar och inte sända sitt folk tillbaka till Egypten för att skaffa många hästar, för Herren har sagt till er: "Ni skall aldrig mer vända tillbaka denna väg." 17 Han får inte heller skaffa sig många hustrur, för att hans hjärta inte skall avfalla, och han skall inte skaffa sig mycket silver och guld.
18 När han sitter på sin kungatron, skall han låta göra åt sig en avskrift av denna lag enligt den bokrulle som finns hos de levitiska prästerna. 19 Den skall han ha hos sig och läsa i den i alla sina livsdagar, så att han lär sig frukta Herren, sin Gud, och ger akt på alla ord i denna lag och dessa stadgar och följer dem. 20 Detta för att hans hjärta inte skall förhäva sig över hans bröder och för att han inte skall vika av ifrån buden, vare sig till höger eller vänster. Då skall han och hans söner regera länge i Israel.

17 You must not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep that has a defect, anything seriously wrong; for that is abhorrent to the Lord your God.
2 If there is found among you, in one of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, and transgresses his covenant 3 by going to serve other gods and worshipping them—whether the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden— 4 and if it is reported to you or you hear of it, and you make a thorough inquiry, and the charge is proved true that such an abhorrent thing has occurred in Israel, 5 then you shall bring out to your gates that man or that woman who has committed this crime and you shall stone the man or woman to death. 6 On the evidence of two or three witnesses the death sentence shall be executed; a person must not be put to death on the evidence of only one witness. 7 The hands of the witnesses shall be the first raised against the person to execute the death penalty, and afterwards the hands of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
Legal Decisions by Priests and Judges
8 If a judicial decision is too difficult for you to make between one kind of bloodshed and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another—any such matters of dispute in your towns—then you shall immediately go up to the place that the Lord your God will choose, 9 where you shall consult with the levitical priests and the judge who is in office in those days; they shall announce to you the decision in the case. 10 Carry out exactly the decision that they announce to you from the place that the Lord will choose, diligently observing everything they instruct you. 11 You must carry out fully the law that they interpret for you or the ruling that they announce to you; do not turn aside from the decision that they announce to you, either to the right or to the left. 12 As for anyone who presumes to disobey the priest appointed to minister there to the Lord your God, or the judge, that person shall die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not act presumptuously again.
Limitations of Royal Authority
14 When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, ‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me’, 15 you may indeed set over you a king whom the Lord your God will choose. One of your own community you may set as king over you; you are not permitted to put a foreigner over you, who is not of your own community. 16 Even so, he must not acquire many horses for himself, or return the people to Egypt in order to acquire more horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You must never return that way again.’ 17 And he must not acquire many wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away; also silver and gold he must not acquire in great quantity for himself. 18 When he has taken the throne of his kingdom, he shall have a copy of this law written for him in the presence of the levitical priests. 19 It shall remain with him and he shall read in it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, diligently observing all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 neither exalting himself above other members of the community nor turning aside from the commandment, either to the right or to the left, so that he and his descendants may reign long over his kingdom in Israel.
