10 In quel tempo il Signore mi disse: Tàgliati due tavole di pietra simili alle prime e sali da me sul monte e costruisci anche un'arca di legno; 2 io scriverò su quelle tavole le parole che erano sulle prime che tu hai spezzato e tu le metterai nell'arca. 3 Io feci dunque un'arca di legno d'acacia e tagliai due tavole di pietra simili alle prime; poi salii sul monte, con le due tavole in mano. 4 Il Signore scrisse su quelle tavole la stessa iscrizione di prima, cioè i dieci comandamenti che il Signore aveva promulgati per voi sul monte, in mezzo al fuoco, il giorno dell'assemblea. Il Signore me li consegnò. 5 Allora mi volsi e scesi dal monte; collocai le tavole nell'arca che avevo fatta e là restarono, come il Signore mi aveva ordinato.
6 Poi gli Israeliti partirono dai pozzi dei figli Iaakan per Mosera. Là morì Aronne e vi fu sepolto; Eleazaro suo figlio divenne sacerdote al posto di lui. 7 Di là partirono alla volta di Gudgoda e da Gudgoda alla volta di Iotbata, paese ricco di torrenti d'acqua.
8 In quel tempo il Signore prescelse la tribù di Levi per portare l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, per stare davanti al Signore al suo servizio e per benedire nel nome di lui, come ha fatto fino ad oggi. 9 Perciò Levi non ha parte né eredità con i suoi fratelli: il Signore è la sua eredità, come il Signore tuo Dio gli aveva detto.
10 Io ero rimasto sul monte, come la prima volta, quaranta giorni e quaranta notti; il Signore mi esaudì anche questa volta: il Signore non ha voluto distruggerti. 11 Poi il Signore mi disse: Alzati, mettiti in cammino alla testa del tuo popolo: entrino nel paese che giurai ai loro padri di dar loro e ne prendano possesso.
La circoncisione del cuore
12 Ora, Israele, che cosa ti chiede il Signore tuo Dio, se non che tu tema il Signore tuo Dio, che tu cammini per tutte le sue vie, che tu l'ami e serva il Signore tuo Dio con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, 13 che tu osservi i comandi del Signore e le sue leggi, che oggi ti do per il tuo bene? 14 Ecco, al Signore tuo Dio appartengono i cieli, i cieli dei cieli, la terra e quanto essa contiene. 15 Ma il Signore predilesse soltanto i tuoi padri, li amò e, dopo loro, ha scelto fra tutti i popoli la loro discendenza, cioè voi, come oggi. 16 Circoncidete dunque il vostro cuore ostinato e non indurite più la vostra nuca; 17 perché il Signore vostro Dio è il Dio degli dei, il Signore dei signori, il Dio grande, forte e terribile, che non usa parzialità e non accetta regali, 18 rende giustizia all'orfano e alla vedova, ama il forestiero e gli dà pane e vestito. 19 Amate dunque il forestiero, poiché anche voi foste forestieri nel paese d'Egitto. 20 Temi il Signore tuo Dio, a lui servi, restagli fedele e giura nel suo nome: 21 Egli è l'oggetto della tua lode, Egli è il tuo Dio; ha fatto per te quelle cose grandi e tremende che i tuoi occhi hanno visto. 22 I tuoi padri scesero in Egitto in numero di settanta persone; ora il Signore tuo Dio ti ha reso numeroso come le stelle dei cieli.

Le nuove tavole della legge
10 (A)In quel tempo, il Signore mi disse: «Taglia due tavole di pietra come le prime e sali da me sul monte; fatti anche un'*arca di legno. 2 Io scriverò su quelle tavole le parole che erano sulle prime che hai spezzate, e tu le metterai nell'arca». 3 Io feci allora un'arca di legno d'acacia, e tagliai due tavole di pietra come le prime; poi salii sul monte, tenendo le due tavole in mano. 4 Il Signore scrisse su quelle due tavole ciò che era stato scritto la prima volta, cioè i dieci comandamenti che il Signore aveva pronunziato per voi sul monte, parlando dal fuoco, il giorno dell'assemblea. E il Signore me le diede. 5 Allora mi voltai e scesi dal monte; misi le tavole nell'arca che avevo fatta, e sono lí, come il Signore mi aveva ordinato.
6 I figli d'*Israele partirono da Beerot-Benè-Iaacan per Mosera. Là *Aaronne morí e fu sepolto; ed *Eleazar, suo figlio, divenne sacerdote al suo posto. 7 Di là partirono per Gudgoda, e da Gudgoda per Iotbata, paese di corsi d'acqua. 8 In quel tempo il Signore separò la tribú di *Levi per portare l'arca del patto del Signore, per stare davanti al Signore, per servirlo e per dare la benedizione nel nome di lui, come ha fatto fino a questo giorno. 9 Perciò Levi non ha parte né eredità con i suoi fratelli; il Signore è la sua eredità, come gli ha detto il Signore, il tuo Dio.
10 Io rimasi sul monte, come la prima volta, quaranta giorni e quaranta notti; e il Signore mi esaudí anche questa volta: il Signore non volle distruggerti. 11 Il Signore mi disse: «Àlzati, mettiti in cammino alla testa del popolo, perché entrino nel paese che giurai ai loro padri di dare loro e ne prendano possesso».
Esortazione a ubbidire a Dio
12 (B)E ora, Israele, che cosa chiede da te il Signore, il tuo Dio, se non che tu tema il Signore, il tuo Dio, che tu cammini in tutte le sue vie, che tu lo ami e serva il Signore, il tuo Dio, con tutto il tuo cuore e con tutta l'anima[a] tua, 13 che tu osservi per il tuo bene i comandamenti del Signore e le sue leggi che oggi ti do? 14 Ecco, al Signore tuo Dio appartengono i cieli, i cieli dei cieli, la terra e tutto ciò che essa contiene; 15 ma soltanto ai tuoi padri il Signore si affezionò e li amò; poi, dopo di loro, fra tutti i popoli scelse la loro discendenza, cioè voi, come oggi si vede. 16 Circoncidete dunque il vostro cuore e non indurite piú il vostro collo; 17 poiché il Signore, il vostro Dio, è il Dio degli dèi, il Signore dei signori, il Dio grande, forte e tremendo, che non ha riguardi personali e non accetta regali, 18 che fa giustizia all'orfano e alla vedova, che ama lo straniero e gli dà pane e vestito. 19 Amate dunque lo straniero, poiché anche voi foste stranieri nel paese d'Egitto. 20 Temi il Signore, il tuo Dio, servilo, tieniti stretto a lui e giura nel suo nome. 21 Egli è l'oggetto delle tue lodi, è il tuo Dio, che ha fatto per te queste cose grandi e tremende che gli occhi tuoi hanno viste. 22 I tuoi padri scesero in Egitto; erano settanta persone e ora il Signore, il tuo Dio, ha fatto di te una moltitudine simile alle stelle del cielo.

1 In the same time the Lord said unto me, (A)Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an Ark of wood,
2 And I will write upon the tables, the words that were upon the first Tables, which thou breakest, and thou shalt put them in the Ark.
3 And I made an Ark of [a]Shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mountain, and the two Tables in mine hand.
4 Then he wrote upon the Tables according to the first writing, (the ten commandments, which the Lord spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the [b]assembly) and the Lord gave them unto me.
5 And I departed and came down from the Mount, and put the Tables in the Ark which I had made: and there they be, as the Lord commanded me.
6 ¶ And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan, to [c]Moserah, where Aaron died, and was buried, and Eleazar his son became Priest in his stead.
7 ¶ From thence they departed unto Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of running waters.
8 ¶ The same time the Lord separated the tribe of Levi to bear the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, and to stand before the Lord, to [d]minister unto him, and to bless in his Name unto this day.
9 Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren: for the Lord is his [e]inheritance, as the Lord thy God hath promised him.
10 And I tarried in the mount, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and the Lord heard me at that time also, and the Lord would not destroy thee.
11 But the Lord said unto me, Arise, go forth in the journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.
12 ¶ And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God [f]require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul?
13 That thou keep the commandments of the Lord and his ordinances, which I command thee this day, for thy wealth?
14 Behold, heaven, and the heaven of heavens is the Lord’s thy God, and the (B)earth, with all that therein is.
15 [g]Notwithstanding, the Lord set his delight in thy fathers to love them, and did choose their seed after them, even you above all people, as appeareth this day.
16 [h]Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and harden your necks no more.
17 For the Lord your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty and terrible, which accepteth no (C)persons, nor taketh reward:
18 Who doeth right unto the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, giving him food and raiment.
19 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
20 (D)Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God: thou shalt serve him, and thou shalt cleave unto him, and [i]shalt swear by his Name.
21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.
22 Thy fathers went down into Egypt (E)with seventy persons, and now the Lord thy God hath made thee, as the (F)stars of the heaven in multitude.
