⁹ Only be careful,^(A) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach^(B) them to your children^(C) and to their children after them. ¹⁰ Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb,^(D) when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn^(E) to revere^(F) me as long as they live in the land^(G) and may teach^(H) them to their children.” ¹¹ You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain^(I) while it blazed with fire^(J) to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.^{(K) 12} Then the Lord spoke^(L) to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form;^(M) there was only a voice.^{(N) 13} He declared to you his covenant,^(O) the Ten Commandments,^(P) which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets. ¹⁴ And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws^(Q) you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.

Final Charge to Timothy

¹¹ But you, man of God,^(A) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,^(B) faith, love,^(C) endurance and gentleness. ¹² Fight the good fight^(D) of the faith. Take hold of^(E) the eternal life^(F) to which you were called when you made your good confession^(G) in the presence of many witnesses. ¹³ In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate^(H) made the good confession,^(I) I charge you^{(J) 14} to keep this command without spot or blame^(K) until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,^(L)
