Spiritism Forbidden

⁹ “When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to ^[a](A)imitate the detestable things of those nations. ¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone ^(B)who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one ^(C)who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, ¹¹ or one who casts a spell, ^(D)or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. ¹² For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and ^(E)because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you.

¹⁷ Then ^(A)they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and ^(B)practiced divination and enchantments, and ^(C)sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him.

^13 (A)So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep; and also ^(B)because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it,

¹⁹ When they say to you, “^(A)Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people ^(B)consult their God? Should they ^(C)consult the dead on behalf of the living?

²⁰ Therefore, thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against your magic bands by which you hunt ^[a]lives there as ^[b]birds and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let ^[c]them go, even those ^[d]lives whom you hunt as ^[e]birds.

²¹ I will also tear off your veils and ^(A)deliver My people from your hands, and they will no longer be in your hands to be hunted; and you will know that I am the Lord.

^41 [a]At that time ^(A)they made a ^[b]calf and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in ^(B)the works of their hands. ⁴² But God ^(C)turned away and delivered them up to ^[c]serve the ^[d]host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘^(D)It was not to Me that you offered victims and sacrifices ^(E)forty years in the wilderness, was it, O house of Israel? ^43 (F)You also took along the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of the god ^[e]Rompha, the images which you made to worship. I also will remove you beyond Babylon.’

⁴⁴ “Our fathers had ^(G)the tabernacle of testimony in the wilderness, just as He who spoke to Moses directed him to make it ^(H)according to the pattern which he had seen.
