^5 (A)Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm ^(B)the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

⁵ he saved us, ^(A)not because of works done by us in righteousness, but ^(B)according to his own mercy, by ^(C)the washing of regeneration and ^(D)renewal of the Holy Spirit,

^4 (A)I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And ^(B)in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,

⁸ And ^(A)I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and ^(B)I will be their God.”

⁷ And he said to him, “I am the Lord who ^(A)brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans ^(B)to give you this land to possess.”

¹⁵ for all the land that you see I will give ^(A)to you and ^(B)to your offspring forever.

⁷ Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ^(A)“To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

¹⁴ But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, ^(A)in whose sight I had brought them out.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you ^(A)swore by your own self, and said to them, ^(B)‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

¹³ And behold, ^(A)the Lord stood above it^[a] and said, ^(B)“I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. ^(C)The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring.
