¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure that the Lord bore against you, so that he was ready to destroy you. ^(A)But the Lord listened to me that time also.

¹⁶ Therefore, ^(A)confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, ^(B)that you may be healed. ^(C)The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.^{[a] 17} Elijah was a man ^(D)with a nature like ours, and ^(E)he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for ^(F)three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.

^10 (A)“I myself stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, ^(B)and the Lord listened to me that time also. The Lord was unwilling to destroy you.

¹⁷ And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, ^(A)for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”

¹⁴ And the Lord ^(A)relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.

¹⁰ Now therefore ^(A)let me alone, that ^(B)my wrath may burn hot against them and ^(C)I may consume them, in order that ^(D)I may make a great nation of you.”

¹¹ But ^(E)Moses implored the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

Have No Fear

⁴ “I tell you, my friends, ^(A)do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. ⁵ But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him ^(B)who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell.^[a] Yes, I tell you, fear him!

² When they had finished eating the grass of the land, I said,
