¹⁶ You must destroy all the peoples the Lord your God gives over to you.^(A) Do not look on them with pity^(B) and do not serve their gods,^(C) for that will be a snare^(D) to you.

³³ Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare^(A) to you.”

²⁷ Gideon made the gold into an ephod,^(A) which he placed in Ophrah,^(B) his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare^(C) to Gideon and his family.^(D)

³³ Do not be misled:^(A) “Bad company corrupts good character.”^[a](B)

¹² you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.^(A)

²¹ Show no pity:^(A) life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.^(B)
