The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh

¹⁹ Do not take revenge,^(A) my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”^[a](B) says the Lord.

⁹ The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,^(A) as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient^(B) with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.^(C)

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.^(D) The heavens will disappear with a roar;^(E) the elements will be destroyed by fire,^(F) and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.^[a](G)

²³ Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works no one else did,^(A) they would not be guilty of sin.^(B) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.
