¹⁴ Do not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who are all around you,

⁶ do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, and do not provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.”

²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols.^[a]

⁷ any of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far away from you, from one end of the earth to the other,

¹⁹ If you do forget the Lord your God and follow other gods to serve and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.^(A)

²⁸ and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God but turn from the way that I am commanding you today, to follow other gods that you have not known.^(A)

¹⁴ for you shall worship no other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.^{(A) 15} You shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, someone among them will invite you, and you will eat of the sacrifice,^{(B) 16} and you will take wives from among their daughters for your sons, and their daughters who prostitute themselves to their gods will make your sons also prostitute themselves to their gods.^(C)
