²⁴ And you said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and ^(A)greatness, and ^(B)we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man ^(C)still live.

^33 (A)Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live?

¹⁹ And as the ^(A)sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and ^(B)God answered him in thunder.

²² And Manoah said to his wife, ^(A)“We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”

⁴ The Lord spoke with you ^(A)face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, ^5 (B)while I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord. For ^(C)you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain. He said:

²⁰ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for ^(A)man shall not see me and live.”

³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”
