⁴ For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: ^(A)“And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

^2 (A)And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

^12 (A)Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.

²⁹ See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day.

²¹ Then I warned them, and said to them, “Why do you spend the night ^[a]around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you!” From that time on they came no more on the Sabbath.

⁵ Yet now ^(A)our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we ^(B)are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.”

⁴⁴ And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. ⁴⁵ Moreover you may buy ^(A)the children of the strangers who dwell among you, and their families who are with you, which they beget in your land; and they shall become your property. ⁴⁶ And ^(B)you may take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them as a possession; they shall be your permanent slaves. But regarding your brethren, the children of Israel, you shall not rule over one another with rigor.

¹⁵ In those days I saw people in Judah treading winepresses ^(A)on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens, ^(B)which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And I warned them about the day on which they were selling provisions.
