²⁵ After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt^(A) and make any kind of idol,^(B) doing evil^(C) in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, ²⁶ I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses^(D) against you^(E) this day that you will quickly perish^(F) from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. ²⁷ The Lord will scatter^(G) you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive^(H) among the nations to which the Lord will drive you.

¹⁶ Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.^{(A) 17} Then the Lord’s anger^(B) will burn against you, and he will shut up^(C) the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce,^(D) and you will soon perish^(E) from the good land the Lord is giving you.

¹⁷ But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, ¹⁸ I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed.^(A) You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

¹⁶ If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.^(A)”

¹⁵ And the Lord will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot^(A) Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused^(B) the Lord’s anger by making Asherah^(C) poles.^{[a] 16} And he will give Israel up because of the sins^(D) Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit.”

¹³ So I will throw you out of this land^(A) into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known,^(B) and there you will serve other gods^(C) day and night, for I will show you no favor.’^(D)

¹⁴ “However, the days are coming,”^(E) declares the Lord, “when it will no longer be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’^{(F) 15} but it will be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north^(G) and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’^(H) For I will restore^(I) them to the land I gave their ancestors.^(J)
