²² For I am going to die in this land without crossing over the Jordan, but you are going to cross over to take possession of that good land.^(A)

²⁵ Let me cross over to see the good land beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and the Lebanon.’

²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah and look around you to the west, to the north, to the south, and to the east. Look well, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.^(A)

¹³ I think it right, as long as I am in this body,^[a] to refresh your memory,^{(A) 14} since I know that my death^[b] will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.^{(B) 15} And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

⁷ Endure trials for the sake of discipline. God is treating you as children, for what child is there whom a parent does not discipline?^{(B) 8} If you do not have that discipline in which all children share, then you are illegitimate and not his children.^{(C) 9} Moreover, we had human parents to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness.^(D)

²¹ and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, “Thus says the Lord: Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord and have not kept the commandment that the Lord your God commanded you^{(A) 22} but have come back and have eaten food and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, ‘Eat no food, and drink no water,’ your body shall not come to your ancestral tomb.”
