^5 (A)The Lord will give them over to you, that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you.

² and when the Lord your God delivers ^(A)them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. ^(B)You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.

¹⁶ “But ^(A)of the cities of these peoples which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, ¹⁷ but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the Lord your God has commanded you,

^32 (A)You shall make no ^[a]covenant with them, nor with their gods. ³³ They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, ^(B)it will surely be a snare to you.”

²³ But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed. ²⁴ And ^(A)He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under heaven; ^(B)no one shall be able to stand ^[a]against you until you have destroyed them. ²⁵ You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not ^(C)covet^[b] the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.

¹⁸ you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall ^(A)remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:

^52 (A)then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their ^[a]high places; ⁵³ you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to ^(B)possess. ⁵⁴ And ^(C)you shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among your families; to the larger you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance; there everyone’s inheritance shall be whatever falls to him by lot. You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers. ⁵⁵ But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be ^(D)irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. ⁵⁶ Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’ ”

^12 (A)Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. ¹³ But you shall ^(B)destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and ^(C)cut down their wooden images ¹⁴ (for you shall worship ^(D)no other god, for the Lord, whose ^(E)name is Jealous, is a ^(F)jealous God), ¹⁵ lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they ^(G)play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them ^(H)invites you and you ^(I)eat of his sacrifice, ¹⁶ and you take of ^(J)his daughters for your sons, and his daughters ^(K)play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods.
