²⁸ But ^(A)command^[a] Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’

³ The Lord your God ^(A)Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. ^(B)Joshua himself crosses over before you, just ^(C)as the Lord has said.

^23 (A)Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, ^(B)“Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

⁷ Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, ^(A)“Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it.

^38 (A)Joshua the son of Nun, ^(B)who stands before you, he shall go in there. ^(C)Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

¹⁸ And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man ^(A)in whom is the Spirit, and ^(B)lay your hand on him; ¹⁹ set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and ^(C)inaugurate^[a] him in their sight. ²⁰ And ^(D)you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel ^(E)may be obedient. ^21 (F)He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him ^(G)by the judgment of the Urim. ^(H)At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”

²² So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. ²³ And he laid his hands on him ^(I)and ^[b]inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

⁸ For if ^[a]Joshua had ^(A)given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.

Preach the Word

4 I ^(A)charge you ^[a]therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)who will judge the living and the dead ^[b]at His appearing and His kingdom: ² Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. ^(C)Convince, ^(D)rebuke, ^(E)exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. ^3 (F)For the time will come when they will not endure ^(G)sound doctrine, ^(H)but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; ⁴ and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and ^(I)be turned aside to fables. ⁵ But you be watchful in all things, ^(J)endure afflictions, do the work of ^(K)an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Paul’s Valedictory

⁶ For ^(L)I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of ^(M)my departure is at hand.

Be Strong in Grace

2 You therefore, ^(A)my son, ^(B)be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. ² And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. ³ You therefore must ^(C)endure^[a] hardship ^(D)as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
