¹⁵ To Machir ^(A)I gave Gilead,

³⁹ And the sons of ^(A)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses ^(B)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it.

⁷ Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, ^(A)but to the other half Joshua had given a possession beside their brothers in the land west of the Jordan. And when Joshua sent them away to their homes and blessed them,

17 Then allotment was made to the people of Manasseh, for he was ^(A)the firstborn of Joseph. To ^(B)Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, ^(C)were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war. ² And allotments were made ^(D)to the rest of the people of Manasseh by their clans, Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph, by their clans.

³ Now ^(E)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters, and these are the names of his daughters: ^(F)Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

^29 (A)The sons of Manasseh: of ^(B)Machir, the clan of the Machirites; and Machir was the father of Gilead; ^(C)of Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites.

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children ^(A)of the third generation. The ^(B)children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were ^(C)counted as Joseph's own.^[a]
