^13 (A)The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh. (All the region of Argob, with all Bashan, was called the land of the ^[a]giants.

³⁹ And the children of ^(A)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and ^[a]dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. ⁴⁰ So Moses ^(B)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it. ⁴¹ Also ^(C)Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them ^(D)Havoth Jair.^{[b] 42} Then Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and he called it Nobah, after his own name.

The Family of Manasseh (East)

²³ So the children of the half-tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land. Their numbers increased from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to ^(A)Senir, or Mount Hermon. ²⁴ These were the heads of their fathers’ houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel. They were mighty men of valor, famous men, and heads of their fathers’ houses.

²⁵ And they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and ^(B)played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. ²⁶ So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of ^(C)Pul king of Assyria, that is, ^(D)Tiglath-Pileser^[a] king of Assyria. He carried the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into captivity. He took them to ^(E)Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan to this day.

Half the Tribe of Manasseh (East)

^29 (A)Moses also had given an inheritance to half the tribe of Manasseh; it was for half the tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families: ³⁰ Their territory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and ^(B)all the towns of Jair which are in Bashan, sixty cities; ³¹ half of Gilead, and ^(C)Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the ^(D)children of Machir the son of Manasseh, for half of the children of Machir according to their families.

³² These are the areas which Moses had ^[a]distributed as an inheritance in the plains of Moab on the other side of the Jordan, by Jericho eastward.
