13 The rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh.(A) (The whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites.(B)

39 The descendants of Makir(A) son of Manasseh went to Gilead,(B) captured it and drove out the Amorites(C) who were there. 40 So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites,(D) the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there. 41 Jair,(E) a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.[a](F) 42 And Nobah captured Kenath(G) and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah(H) after himself.(I)

The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

23 The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh(A) were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).(B)

24 These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. 25 But they were unfaithful(C) to the God of their ancestors and prostituted(D) themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit(E) of Pul(F) king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser(G) king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah,(H) Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.

29 This is what Moses had given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, that is, to half the family of the descendants of Manasseh, according to its clans:

30 The territory extending from Mahanaim(A) and including all of Bashan,(B) the entire realm of Og king of Bashan(C)—all the settlements of Jair(D) in Bashan, sixty towns, 31 half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth and Edrei (the royal cities of Og in Bashan).(E) This was for the descendants of Makir(F) son of Manasseh—for half of the sons of Makir, according to their clans.(G)

32 This is the inheritance Moses had given when he was in the plains of Moab(H) across the Jordan east of Jericho.(I)
