⁵ For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out.

⁴ For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell.

² Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.

³ But forty years after the Israelites left Egypt, on the first day of the eleventh month,^[a] Moses addressed the people of Israel, telling them everything the Lord had commanded him to say.

¹⁰ Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.

³¹ “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ ³² These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

¹³ These wineskins were new when we filled them, but now they are old and split open. And our clothing and sandals are worn out from our very long journey.”

⁵ They put on worn-out, patched sandals and ragged clothes. And the bread they took with them was dry and moldy.
