The Covenant Renewed in Moab

29 ^[a] These are the words of the covenant that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the people of Israel ^(A)in the land of Moab, besides ^(B)the covenant that he had made with them at Horeb.

^2 (A)The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. ^3 (B)Not with our fathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive today.

³² not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when ^(A)I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, ^(B)though I was their husband, declares the Lord.

³ And the king stood ^(A)by the pillar and ^(B)made a covenant before the Lord, ^(C)to walk after the Lord and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people joined in the covenant.

² Moses ^(A)alone shall come near to the Lord, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.”

³ Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and ^(B)all the rules.^[a] And all the people answered with one voice and said, ^(C)“All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.” ⁴ And ^(D)Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve ^(E)pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. ⁵ And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. ⁶ And ^(F)Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. ⁷ Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, ^(G)“All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” ^8 (H)And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

^25 (A)You are the sons of the prophets and of ^(B)the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ^(C)‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’

¹⁸ And the men who transgressed my covenant and did not keep the terms of ^(A)the covenant that they made before me, I will make them like^{[a] (B)}the calf that they cut in two and passed between its parts—

⁶ And the Lord said to me, ^(A)“Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: ^(B)Hear the words of this covenant and do them.
