⁷ The Lord will grant that the enemies^(A) who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.^(B)

⁷ You will pursue your enemies,^(A) and they will fall by the sword before you. ⁸ Five^(B) of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.^(C)

²¹ And the Lord sent an angel,^(A) who annihilated all the fighting men and the commanders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he went into the temple of his god, some of his sons, his own flesh and blood, cut him down with the sword.^(B)

²² So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all others. He took care of them^[a] on every side.

Jehoshaphat Appoints Judges

⁴ Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

²² Those in the ambush also came out of the city against them, so that they were caught in the middle, with Israelites on both sides. Israel cut them down, leaving them neither survivors nor fugitives.^(A)

²⁰ This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful^(A) before the Lord his God. ²¹ In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.^(B)

²⁵ The Lord will cause you to be defeated^(A) before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven,^(B) and you will become a thing of horror^(C) to all the kingdoms on earth.^(D)
