⁵⁴ The man who is the most tender and refined among you will ^(A)begrudge food to his brother, to ^(B)the wife he embraces,^[a] and to the last of the children whom he has left,

^15 (A)Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or ^(B)do you begrudge my generosity?’^[a]

⁹ Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your ^(A)eye look grudgingly^[a] on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he ^(B)cry to the Lord against you, and ^(C)you be guilty of sin.

^6 (A)“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or ^(B)the wife you embrace^[a] or your friend ^(C)who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ ^(D)which neither you nor your fathers have known,

¹¹ What father among you, if his son asks for^[a] a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; ¹² or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? ¹³ If you then, ^(A)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father ^(B)give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

⁹ Or which one of you, if his son asks him for ^(A)bread, will give him ^(B)a stone? ¹⁰ Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? ¹¹ If you then, ^(C)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will ^(D)your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
