⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything. And he ^(A)will put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you.

¹³ “Go, tell Hananiah, ‘Thus says the Lord: You have broken wooden bars, but you have made in their place bars of iron. ¹⁴ For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put upon the neck of all these nations ^(A)an iron yoke to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, ^(B)and they shall serve him, ^(C)for I have given to him even the beasts of the field.’”

¹² “Say now to ^(A)the rebellious house, ^(B)Do you not know what these things mean? Tell them, behold, ^(C)the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took her king and her princes and brought them to him to Babylon.

¹⁶ Moreover, he said to me, ^(A)“Son of man, behold, ^(B)I will break the supply^[a] of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread ^(C)by weight and with anxiety, and they shall drink water ^(D)by measure and in dismay. ¹⁷ I will do this that they may lack bread and water, and ^(E)look at one another in dismay, and ^(F)rot away because of their punishment.

^27 (A)Behold, I am watching over them for disaster and not for good. ^(B)All the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end of them.

^22 (A)The Lord could no longer bear your evil deeds and ^(B)the abominations that you committed. ^(C)Therefore your land has become ^(D)a desolation and a waste and a curse, ^(E)without inhabitant, as it is this day.

^17 (A)But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to ^(B)the queen of heaven ^(C)and pour out drink offerings to her, ^(D)as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster. ¹⁸ But since we left off making offerings to ^(E)the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything ^(F)and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.”

³⁵ Even in their own kingdom, ^(A)and amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and ^(B)rich land that you set before them, ^(C)they did not serve you or turn from their wicked works. ³⁶ Behold, ^(D)we are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves. ^37 (E)And its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
