²¹ The Lord will afflict you with diseases until none of you are left in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

²⁵ I will send armies against you to carry out the curse of the covenant you have broken. When you run to your towns for safety, I will send a plague to destroy you there, and you will be handed over to your enemies.

¹⁰ And I will send war, famine, and disease until they have vanished from the land of Israel, which I gave to them and their ancestors.”

² And if they say to you, ‘But where can we go?’ tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says:

¹² I will disown them and destroy them with a plague. Then I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are!”

⁷ While he was eating,^[a] a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head.

⁶ I will send a terrible plague upon this city, and both people and animals will die. ⁷ And after all that, says the Lord, I will hand over King Zedekiah, his staff, and everyone else in the city who survives the disease, war, and famine. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their other enemies. He will slaughter them and show them no mercy, pity, or compassion.’

⁴ They will die from terrible diseases. No one will mourn for them or bury them, and they will lie scattered on the ground like manure. They will die from war and famine, and their bodies will be food for the vultures and wild animals.”

¹⁵ So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel that morning, and it lasted for three days.^[a] A total of 70,000 people died throughout the nation, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south.

⁹ but not before 24,000 people had died.
