Curses from Mount Ebal

⁹ Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: ^(A)this day you have become the people of the Lord your God.

^10 (A)Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

¹¹ Beloved, I urge you ^(B)as sojourners and exiles ^(C)to abstain from the passions of the flesh, ^(D)which wage war against your soul.

⁸ for ^(A)at one time you were ^(B)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. ^(C)Walk as children of light ⁹ (for ^(D)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous^[a] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: ^(A)neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,^{[b] 10} nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And ^(B)such were some of you. But ^(C)you were washed, ^(D)you were sanctified, ^(E)you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

¹⁶ “This day the Lord your God commands you to do these statutes and rules. You shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul. ^17 (A)You have declared today that the Lord is your God, and that you will walk in his ways, and keep his statutes and his commandments and his rules, and will obey his voice. ¹⁸ And the Lord has declared today that you are ^(B)a people for his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments,

²² But now that you ^(A)have been set free from sin and ^(B)have become slaves of God, ^(C)the fruit you get leads to sanctification and ^(D)its end, eternal life.

¹⁷ But ^(A)thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the ^(B)standard of teaching to which you were committed, ¹⁸ and, ^(C)having been set free from sin, ^(D)have become slaves of righteousness.
