^16 (A)‘Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt.’

“And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’

^3 (A)‘Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and ^(B)keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

¹⁷ “And ^(A)he who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

The Rebellious Son

¹⁸ “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, ¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. ²⁰ And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ ²¹ Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; ^(A)so you shall put away the evil from among you, ^(B)and all Israel shall hear and fear.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ^(B)‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ ⁵ But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, ^(C)“Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— ⁶ then he need not honor his father ^[a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the ^[b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

⁷ In you they have ^(A)made light of father and mother; in your midst they have ^(B)oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the ^[a]fatherless and the widow.

⁹ ‘For ^(A)everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. ^(B)His blood shall be upon him.
