¹² “When you have crossed over the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.^(A)

The Parable of the Trees

⁷ When it was told to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and cried aloud and said to them, “Listen to me, you lords of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.^(A)

³³ All Israel, alien as well as native-born, with their elders and officers and their judges, stood on opposite sides of the ark in front of the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, half of them in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded earlier, that they should bless the people of Israel.^{(A) 34} And afterward he read all the words of the law, blessings and curses, according to all that is written in the book of the law.^{(B) 35} There was not a word of all that Moses commanded that Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the aliens who resided among them.^(C)

²⁶ “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:^{(A) 27} the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today;^{(B) 28} and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God but turn from the way that I am commanding you today, to follow other gods that you have not known.^(C)

²⁹ “When the Lord your God has brought you into the land that you are entering to occupy, you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.^(D)

¹⁸ As her soul was departing, for she was dying, she named him Ben-oni,^[a] but his father called him Benjamin.^[b]

²⁴ and she named him Joseph,^[a] saying, “May the Lord add to me another son!”^(A)

¹⁸ Leah said, “God has given me my hire because I gave my maid to my husband,” so she named him Issachar.^[a]

³³ She conceived again and bore a son and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also,” and she named him Simeon.^{[a] 34} Again she conceived and bore a son and said, “Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons”; therefore he was named Levi.^{[b](A) 35} She conceived again and bore a son and said, “This time I will praise the Lord,” therefore she named him Judah;^[c] then she ceased bearing.^(B)
