¹² When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim^(A) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar,^(B) Joseph and Benjamin.^(C)

⁷ When Jotham^(A) was told about this, he climbed up on the top of Mount Gerizim^(B) and shouted to them, “Listen to me, citizens of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.

³³ All the Israelites, with their elders, officials and judges, were standing on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the Lord, facing the Levitical^(A) priests who carried it. Both the foreigners living among them and the native-born^(B) were there. Half of the people stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal,^(C) as Moses the servant of the Lord had formerly commanded when he gave instructions to bless the people of Israel.

³⁴ Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law—the blessings and the curses—just as it is written in the Book of the Law.^{(D) 35} There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women and children, and the foreigners who lived among them.^(E)

²⁶ See, I am setting before you today a blessing^(A) and a curse^(B)— ²⁷ the blessing^(C) if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; ²⁸ the curse if you disobey^(D) the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods,^(E) which you have not known. ²⁹ When the Lord your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim^(F) the blessings, and on Mount Ebal^(G) the curses.^(H)

¹⁸ As she breathed her last—for she was dying—she named her son Ben-Oni.^[a](A) But his father named him Benjamin.^[b](B)

²⁴ She named him Joseph,^[a](A) and said, “May the Lord add to me another son.”^(B)

¹⁸ Then Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my servant to my husband.”^(A) So she named him Issachar.^[a](B)

³³ She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the Lord heard that I am not loved,^(A) he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.^[a](B)

³⁴ Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me,^(C) because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.^[b](D)

³⁵ She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah.^[c](E) Then she stopped having children.^(F)
