⁵ “And you shall make response before the Lord your God, ‘A ^(A)wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, ^(B)few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

²² Your fathers went down to Egypt ^(A)seventy persons, and now the Lord your God has made you ^(B)as numerous as the stars of heaven.

²⁷ And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. ^(A)All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

Joseph's Brothers Return to Egypt

43 Now the famine was ^(A)severe in the land. ² And when they had eaten the grain that they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little food.”

²⁰ And Jacob tricked^[a] Laban the Aramean, by not telling him that he intended to flee.

^11 (A)There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’

⁷ And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.

¹² Take double the money with you. Carry back with you the money ^(A)that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

²⁴ But God came to Laban the Aramean ^(A)in a dream by night and said to him, “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, ^(B)either good or bad.”

¹⁵ And ^(A)Jacob went down into Egypt, and ^(B)he died, he ^(C)and our fathers,
