⁴ “You shall not see your neighbor’s donkey or ox fallen on the road and ignore it; you shall help to lift it up.^(A)

¹² Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees^{(A) 13} and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.^(B)

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers and sisters, to admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them.^(A)

Bear One Another’s Burdens

6 My brothers and sisters, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. ² Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill^[a] the law of Christ.^(A)

¹⁵ I will most gladly spend and be spent for you. If I love you more, am I to be loved less?^(A)

Please Others, Not Yourselves

15 We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.^(A)

²⁹ But wanting to vindicate himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”^{(A) 30} Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and took off, leaving him half dead. ³¹ Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. ³² So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. ³³ But a Samaritan while traveling came upon him, and when he saw him he was moved with compassion.^{(B) 34} He went to him and bandaged his wounds, treating them with oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him, and when I come back I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ ³⁶ Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” ³⁷ He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

⁴⁴ But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,^(A)

⁴ “When you come upon your enemy’s ox or donkey going astray, you shall bring it back.^(A)

⁵ “When you see the donkey of one who hates you struggling under its burden and you would hold back from setting it free, you must help to set it free.^(B)
