^22 (A)“If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. ^(B)So you shall purge the evil from Israel.

Punishments for Sexual Immorality

¹⁰ “If a ^(A)man commits adultery with the wife of^[a] his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

^4 (A)Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge ^(B)the sexually immoral and adulterous.

⁴ they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. ⁵ Now ^(A)in the Law, Moses commanded us ^(B)to stone such women. So what do you say?”

⁴⁵ But righteous men ^(A)shall pass judgment on them with the sentence of adulteresses, and with the sentence of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.”

⁴⁶ For thus says the Lord God: ^(B)“Bring up a vast host against them, and make them ^(C)an object of terror and ^(D)a plunder. ^47 (E)And the host shall stone them and cut them down with their swords. ^(F)They shall kill their sons and their daughters, and ^(G)burn up their houses.

^38 (A)And I will judge you ^(B)as women who commit adultery and ^(C)shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy.

²² May this water that brings the curse ^(A)pass into your bowels and make your womb swell and your thigh fall away.’ And the woman shall say, ^(B)‘Amen, Amen.’

²³ “Then the priest shall write these curses in a book and wash them off into the water of bitterness. ²⁴ And he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain. ²⁵ And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand ^(C)and shall wave the grain offering before the Lord and bring it to the altar. ²⁶ And the priest ^(D)shall take a handful of the grain offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. ²⁷ And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has broken faith with her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her womb shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman ^(E)shall become a curse among her people.
