² So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people.

¹² Now look, God Himself is with us as our ^(A)head, ^(B)and His priests with sounding trumpets to sound the alarm against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the Lord God of your fathers, for you shall not prosper!”

⁶ Then Moses sent them to the war, one thousand from each tribe; he sent them to the war with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the holy articles and ^(A)the signal trumpets in his hand.

^8 (A)The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ^[a]ordinance forever throughout your generations.

^9 (B)“When you go to war in your land against the enemy who ^(C)oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be ^(D)remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.

^7 (A)Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And ^(B)Abiathar brought the ephod to David. ^8 (C)So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”

And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”

¹⁸ And Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ^[a]ark of God here” (for at that time the ark of God was with the children of Israel).

²⁷ So the children of Israel inquired of the Lord (^(A)the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ^28 (B)and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, ^(C)stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?”

And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
