¹³ and when the Lord your God gives it into your hand, you shall put all its males to the sword.

⁷ and to give relief to the afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels^{(A) 8} in a fiery flame, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^{(B) 9} These will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,^(C)

²⁷ But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to rule over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

Assurance of Victory for God’s Priest-King

Of David. A Psalm.

¹⁵ For when David was destroying^[a] Edom and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the dead, he killed every male in Edom^{(A) 16} (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months until he had eliminated every male in Edom),

¹⁷ Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man by sleeping with him.^{(A) 18} But all the young girls who have not known a man by sleeping with him, keep alive for yourselves.

⁷ They did battle against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and killed every male. ⁸ They killed the kings of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian, in addition to others who were slain by them, and they also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.^{(A) 9} The Israelites took the women of Midian and their little ones captive, and they plundered all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods.
