¹³ When the Lord your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it.^(A)

⁷ I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

⁷ and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven^(A) in blazing fire^(B) with his powerful angels.^{(C) 8} He will punish^(D) those who do not know God^(E) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^{(F) 9} They will be punished with everlasting destruction^(G) and shut out from the presence of the Lord^(H) and from the glory of his might^(I)

²⁷ But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

Of David. A psalm.

¹⁵ Earlier when David was fighting with Edom, Joab the commander of the army, who had gone up to bury the dead, had struck down all the men in Edom.^{(A) 16} Joab and all the Israelites stayed there for six months, until they had destroyed all the men in Edom.

¹⁷ Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,^{(A) 18} but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

⁷ They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses,^(A) and killed every man.^{(B) 8} Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba^(C)—the five kings of Midian.^(D) They also killed Balaam son of Beor^(E) with the sword.^{(F) 9} The Israelites captured the Midianite women^(G) and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.^(H)
