^13 (A)Your eye shall not pity him, ^(B)but you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood^[a] from Israel, so that it may be well with you.

³¹ The king replied to him, ^(A)“Do as he has said, strike him down and bury him, ^(B)and thus take away from me and from my father's house the guilt for the blood that Joab shed without cause.

⁹ So ^(A)you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.

¹⁶ And ^(A)you shall consume all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you. ^(B)Your eye shall not pity them, neither shall you serve their gods, for that would be ^(C)a snare to you.

^2 (A)and when the Lord your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them, then you must ^(B)devote them to complete destruction.^{[a] (C)}You shall make no covenant with them and show no mercy to them.

David Avenges the Gibeonites

21 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David ^(A)sought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, “There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

³³ You shall not ^(A)pollute the land in which you live, for blood ^(B)pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except ^(C)by the blood of the one who shed it. ^34 (D)You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell, ^(E)for I the Lord dwell in the midst of the people of Israel.”

⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you, ^(A)but you were cast out on the open field, for you were abhorred, ^(B)on the day that you were born.

¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in ^(A)Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father. And they did all that the king commanded. And after that ^(B)God responded to the plea for the land.
