¹¹ For ^(A)there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ^(B)‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

⁷ For ^(A)you always have the poor with you, and whenever ^(B)you want, you can do good for them. But ^(C)you will not always have me.

¹¹ For ^(A)you always have the poor with you, but ^(B)you will not always have me.

⁸ For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

⁸ but ^(A)you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.

¹⁶ By this we know love, that ^(A)he laid down his life for us, and ^(B)we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. ¹⁷ But ^(C)if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet ^(D)closes his heart against him, ^(E)how does God's love abide in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not ^(F)love in word or talk but in deed and ^(G)in truth.

They Had Everything in Common

³² Now the full number of those who believed were of ^(A)one heart and ^(B)soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but ^(C)they had everything in common. ³³ And with great ^(D)power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and ^(E)great grace was upon them all. ^34 (F)There was not a needy person among them, for ^(G)as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold ³⁵ and ^(H)laid it at the apostles' feet, and ^(I)it was distributed to each as any had need.

^33 (A)Sell your possessions, and ^(B)give to the needy. ^(C)Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with ^(D)a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
