⁸ The pig is also unclean; although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.^(A)

²⁶ “‘Every animal that does not have a divided hoof or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you; whoever touches the carcass of any of them will be unclean. ²⁷ Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening.

²² Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”^[a](A) and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

¹⁵ So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.^{(A) 16} He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens,^(A) following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs,^(B) rats^(C) and other unclean things—they will meet their end^(D) together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.
