¹⁵ you shall put the inhabitants of that town to the sword, utterly destroying it and everything in it, even putting its livestock to the sword.^(A)

² and when the Lord your God gives them over to you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. Make no covenant with them and show them no mercy.^(A)

²⁸ “Nothing that a person owns that has been devoted to destruction for the Lord, be it human or animal or inherited landholding, may be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the Lord.^(A)

²⁰ “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the Lord alone shall be devoted to destruction.^(A)

³ Once more they said,

¹⁸ and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,

¹⁹ And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints and apostles and prophets! For God has condemned her condemnation of you.^(C)

²¹ Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

¹⁶ And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the whore;^[a] they will make her desolate and naked; they will devour her flesh and burn her up with fire.^(A)

⁴⁸ Meanwhile, the Israelites turned back against the Benjaminites and put them to the sword—the city, the people, the animals, and all that remained. Also the remaining towns they set on fire.

²⁴ They burned down the city and everything in it; only the silver and gold and the vessels of bronze and iron they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord.^(A)
