⁵ But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name^(A) there for his dwelling.^(B) To that place you must go;

¹¹ Then to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name^(A)—there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the Lord.^(B)

¹³ Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe^(A) for the sake^(B) of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”^(C)

³² But for the sake^(A) of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe.

³⁶ I will give one tribe^(A) to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp^(B) before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.

Rehoboam King of Judah^(A)

²¹ Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.^(B)

⁷ He took the carved Asherah pole^(A) he had made and put it in the temple,^(B) of which the Lord had said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name^(C) forever.
