¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, “Hear the disputes between your people and judge^(A) fairly,^(B) whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.^(C)

²⁴ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”^(A)

⁶ He told them, “Consider carefully what you do,^(A) because you are not judging for mere mortals^(B) but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. ⁷ Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice^(C) or partiality^(D) or bribery.”

⁸ In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites,^(E) priests^(F) and heads of Israelite families to administer^(G) the law of the Lord and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem. ⁹ He gave them these orders: “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord. ¹⁰ In every case that comes before you from your people who live in the cities—whether bloodshed or other concerns of the law, commands, decrees or regulations—you are to warn them not to sin against the Lord;^(H) otherwise his wrath will come on you and your people. Do this, and you will not sin.

Judges

¹⁸ Appoint judges^(A) and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.^{(B) 19} Do not pervert justice^(C) or show partiality.^(D) Do not accept a bribe,^(E) for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.

²² You are to have the same law for the foreigner^(A) and the native-born.^(B) I am the Lord your God.’”

⁷ Have nothing to do with a false charge^(A) and do not put an innocent^(B) or honest person to death,^(C) for I will not acquit the guilty.^(D)

⁸ “Do not accept a bribe,^(E) for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.

⁹ “Do not oppress a foreigner;^(F) you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.

² “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice^(A) by siding with the crowd,^{(B) 3} and do not show favoritism^(C) to a poor person in a lawsuit.

²¹ “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner,^(A) for you were foreigners^(B) in Egypt.

¹⁷ Command those who are rich^(A) in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth,^(B) which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,^(C) who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.^(D)
