²⁰ Like the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, ^(A)so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.

^11 (A)All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, ^(B)refusing to obey your voice. ^(C)And the curse and oath ^(D)that are written in the Law of ^(E)Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because ^(F)we have sinned against him. ¹² He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against ^(G)our rulers who ruled us,^[a] by ^(H)bringing upon us a great calamity. ^(I)For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem.

^16 (A)But they kept mocking the messengers of God, ^(B)despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, ^(C)until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

^17 (D)Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.
