²² For a fire is kindled by my anger
    and burns to the depths of Sheol;
it devours the earth and its increase
    and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.^(A)

⁶ The Lord kills and brings to life;
    he brings down to Sheol and raises up.^(A)

⁵ For in death there is no remembrance of you;
    in Sheol who can give you praise?^(A)

¹⁴ Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
    Death shall be their shepherd;
straight to the grave they descend,^[a]
    and their form shall waste away;
    Sheol shall be their home.^[b](A)
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
    for he will receive me. Selah^(B)

¹⁵ Let death come upon them;
    let them go down alive to Sheol,
    for evil is in their homes and in their hearts.^(A)

¹⁸ For Sheol cannot thank you;
    death cannot praise you;
those who go down to the Pit cannot hope
    for your faithfulness.^(A)

²⁵ For I know that my vindicator^[a] lives
    and that in the end he will stand upon the earth;^(A)
26 and after my skin has been destroyed,
    then in my flesh I shall see God,^(B)
27 whom I shall see on my side,
    and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
    My heart faints within me!^(C)
