Daniels bön

9 I Ahasveros son Darejaves första regeringsår[a] - han som var av medisk släkt men som hade blivit upphöjd till kung över kaldeernas rike - 2 i hans första regeringsår kom jag, Daniel, att i skrifterna lägga märke till det antal år som enligt Herrens ord till profeten Jeremia[b] skulle fullbordas angående Jerusalems ödeläggelse, nämligen sjuttio år. 3 Jag vände då mitt ansikte till Herren Gud med ivrig bön och åkallan och fastade i säck och aska. 4 Jag bad till Herren, min Gud, och bekände:

"O Herre, du store Gud som inger fruktan, du som bevarar förbund och nåd mot dem som älskar dig och håller dina bud. 5 Vi har syndat och gjort orätt, varit ogudaktiga och upproriska. Vi har vänt oss bort från dina bud och föreskrifter. 6 Vi har inte lyssnat till dina tjänare profeterna, som talade i ditt namn till våra kungar, furstar och fäder och till allt folket i landet. 7 Du, Herre, är rättfärdig, men vi har dragit skam över oss. Så är det i dag med Juda män och Jerusalems invånare och hela Israel, både de som bor nära och de som bor långt borta i alla andra länder, dit du har fördrivit dem därför att de var trolösa mot dig. 8 Ja, Herre, vi med våra kungar, furstar och fäder måste gömma våra ansikten i skam därför att vi har syndat mot dig. 9 Men hos Herren, vår Gud, finns barmhärtighet och förlåtelse. Vi var upproriska mot honom 10 och lydde inte Herrens, vår Guds, röst. Vi vandrade inte efter de lagar som han förelade oss genom sina tjänare profeterna.

11 Hela Israel överträdde din lag och vek av utan att höra din röst. Därför utgöts också över oss den förbannelse och den ed som står skriven i Guds tjänare Mose lag. Vi hade ju syndat mot honom. 12 Han höll sina ord som han hade talat mot oss och mot våra domare som dömde oss. Han lät en så stor olycka komma över oss att något liknande det som nu skett i Jerusalem inte har hänt någon annanstans under himlen. 13 I enlighet med det som står skrivet i Mose lag kom all denna olycka över oss. Men ändå sökte vi inte blidka Herren, vår Gud, genom att vända om från våra missgärningar och ge akt på din sanning. 14 Därför vakade Herren över olyckan och lät den drabba oss, ty Herren, vår Gud, är rättfärdig i alla de gärningar han gör. Men vi hörde inte hans röst.

15 Och nu, Herre, vår Gud, du som förde ditt folk ut ur Egyptens land med stark hand och så gjorde dig ett namn som är detsamma än i dag: Vi har syndat, vi har varit ogudaktiga. 16 Men Herre, för all din rättfärdighets skull, vänd din vrede och förbittring från din stad Jerusalem, ditt heliga berg. På grund av våra synder och våra fäders missgärningar har Jerusalem och ditt folk blivit till smälek för alla som bor omkring oss. 17 Hör nu, du vår Gud, din tjänares bön och åkallan och låt ditt ansikte lysa över din ödelagda helgedom för Herrens skull. 18 Böj, min Gud, ditt öra till oss och hör. Öppna dina ögon och se vilken förödelse som har drabbat oss, och se till staden som är uppkallad efter ditt namn. Ty det är inte på grund av vår rättfärdighet utan på grund av din stora barmhärtighet som vi kommer inför dig med våra böner. 19 O Herre, hör, Herre, förlåt! Herre, lyssna och utför ditt verk utan att dröja - för din egen skull, min Gud, ty din stad och ditt folk är uppkallade efter ditt namn."

De "sjuttio veckorna"

20 Medan jag ännu talade och bad och bekände min egen och mitt folk Israels synd och inför Herren, min Gud, bar fram min förbön för min Guds heliga berg - 21 medan jag alltså ännu talade i min bön - kom Gabriel till mig i flygande hast, den man som jag förut hade sett i min syn. Han rörde vid mig, och det var vid tiden för kvällsoffret. 22 Han undervisade mig och sade till mig: "Daniel, jag är utsänd för att ge dig insikt och förstånd. 23 Redan när du började be gick ordet ut och jag har kommit för att ge dig besked, för du är högt älskad. Så ge akt på ordet och förstå synen:

24 Sjuttio veckor är bestämda över ditt folk och över din heliga stad för att göra slut på överträdelse, försegla synder, försona skuld, föra fram en evig rättfärdighet, fullborda syn och profetia och smörja den Allraheligaste.[c] 25 Vet därför och förstå: Från den tid då ordet gick ut att Jerusalem skulle återställas och byggas upp till dess den Smorde Fursten kommer, skall det gå sju veckor och sextiotvå veckor. Gator och vallgravar skall på nytt byggas upp, trots tider av svårigheter. 26 Men efter de sextiotvå veckorna skall den Smorde förgöras, helt utblottad. Och staden och helgedomen skall förstöras av folket till en furste som kommer. Men slutet kommer som en störtflod. Intill änden skall det råda krig. Förödelse är fast besluten. 27 Han skall stadfästa förbundet med de många under en vecka, och mitt i veckan skall han avskaffa slaktoffer och matoffer. Och på styggelsers vinge skall förödaren komma, till dess att förstöring och oryggligt beslutad straffdom utgjuts över förödaren."

9 «Era el primer año del reinado de Darío, hijo de Asuero[a] y descendiente de los medos, quien llegó a ser el gobernante del reino de los babilonios.[b] 2 En su primer año de reinado, yo, Daniel, comprendí ese pasaje de las Escrituras[c] donde el Señor comunicó al profeta Jeremías que la ruina de Jerusalén duraría setenta años. 3 Entonces me puse a orar y a dirigir mis súplicas al Señor mi Dios. Además de orar, ayuné y me vestí de luto y me senté sobre cenizas.

4 »Esta fue la oración y confesión que hice al Señor:

»“Señor, Dios grande y temible, que cumples tu pacto de fidelidad con los que te aman y obedecen tus mandamientos: 5 Hemos pecado y hecho lo malo; hemos sido malvados y rebeldes; nos hemos apartado de tus mandamientos y de tus leyes. 6 No hemos prestado atención a tus siervos los profetas que, en tu nombre, hablaron a nuestros reyes y príncipes, a nuestros antepasados y a todos los habitantes de la tierra.

7 »”Señor, tuya es la justicia y nuestra es la vergüenza. Sí, nosotros, pueblo de Judá, habitantes de Jerusalén y de todo Israel, tanto los que vivimos cerca como los que se hallan lejos, en todos los países por los que nos has dispersado por haberte sido infieles. 8 Señor, tanto nosotros como nuestros reyes y príncipes, y nuestros antepasados, cargamos con la vergüenza por haber pecado contra ti. 9 Pero aun cuando nos hemos rebelado contra ti, tú, Señor nuestro, eres un Dios compasivo y perdonador.

10 »”Señor y Dios nuestro, no hemos obedecido ni seguido tus leyes, las cuales nos diste por medio de tus siervos los profetas. 11 Todo Israel ha transgredido tu Ley y se alejaron cuando rechazaron obedecerte. Por eso, las maldiciones y los juicios escritos en la Ley de Moisés, siervo de Dios, han sido derramadas sobre nosotros, porque pecamos contra ti. 12 Tú has cumplido las advertencias que hiciste a nuestros gobernantes y a nosotros; has traído sobre nosotros esta gran calamidad. Jamás ha ocurrido bajo el cielo nada semejante a lo que sucedió con Jerusalén.

13 »”Señor y Dios nuestro, todo este desastre nos ha sobrevenido, tal y como está escrito en la Ley de Moisés, y ni aun así hemos buscado tu favor. No nos hemos apartado de nuestros pecados ni hemos prestado atención a tu verdad.

14 »”El Señor no dudó en traer sobre nosotros esta calamidad; porque el Señor nuestro Dios es justo en todo lo que hace, y aun así no obedecimos.

15 »”Y ahora, Señor y Dios nuestro, que con mano poderosa sacaste de Egipto a tu pueblo y te has hecho un nombre que permanece hasta este día, nosotros hemos pecado y hecho lo malo. 16 Señor, de acuerdo con tus actos justos, por favor aparta tu ira y tu furor de Jerusalén, tu ciudad y tu monte santo. Por nuestros pecados y por la iniquidad de nuestros antepasados, Jerusalén y tu pueblo son objeto de burla de cuantos nos rodean.

17 »”Y ahora, Dios nuestro, escucha las oraciones y súplicas de este siervo tuyo. Por causa de tu nombre, Señor, haz resplandecer tu rostro sobre[d] tu santuario que ha quedado desolado. 18 Préstanos oído, Dios nuestro; abre los ojos y mira nuestra ruina y la ciudad sobre la cual se invoca tu Nombre. Al hacerte estas peticiones, no apelamos a nuestra rectitud, sino a tu gran misericordia. 19 ¡Señor, escúchanos! ¡Señor, perdónanos! ¡Señor, atiéndenos y actúa! Dios mío, hazlo por tu honor y no tardes más; tu Nombre se invoca sobre tu ciudad y sobre tu pueblo”.

Las setenta semanas

20 »Yo seguí hablando y orando al Señor mi Dios. Le confesé mi pecado y el de mi pueblo Israel y supliqué en favor de su santo monte. 21 Mientras seguía orando, Gabriel, a quien había visto en mi visión anterior, se me acercó volando rápidamente, como a la hora del sacrificio de la tarde. 22 Me hizo la siguiente aclaración:

»“Daniel, he venido en este momento para que entiendas todo con claridad. 23 Tan pronto como comenzaste a orar, hubo una respuesta que vine a decirte, porque eres muy apreciado. Presta, pues, atención a mis palabras, para que entiendas la visión.

24 »”Setenta semanas[e] han sido decretadas para que tu pueblo y tu santa ciudad pongan fin a las transgresiones y pecados, pidan perdón por la maldad, establezcan para siempre la justicia, sellen la visión y la profecía y consagren el Lugar Santísimo.[f]

25 »”Entiende bien lo siguiente: Habrá siete semanas desde la promulgación del decreto que ordena la reconstrucción de Jerusalén hasta la llegada del Príncipe Ungido. Luego habrá sesenta y dos semanas más. Entonces será reconstruida Jerusalén, con sus calles y trincheras, pero en tiempos difíciles. 26 Después de las sesenta y dos semanas se le quitará la vida al Ungido y se quedará sin nada. La ciudad y el santuario serán destruidos por el pueblo de un príncipe que vendrá. El fin vendrá como una inundación, la destrucción no cesará[g] hasta que termine la guerra. 27 Durante una semana ese gobernante hará un pacto con muchos, pero a media semana pondrá fin a los sacrificios y ofrendas. Y en el Templo[h] establecerá la abominación que causa destrucción, hasta que sobrevenga el desastroso fin que le ha sido decretado”».

Daniel’s Prayer

9 In the first year of Darius(A) son of Xerxes[a](B) (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian[b] kingdom— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy(C) years. 3 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting,(D) and in sackcloth and ashes.(E)

4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:(F)

“Lord, the great and awesome God,(G) who keeps his covenant of love(H) with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned(I) and done wrong.(J) We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away(K) from your commands and laws.(L) 6 We have not listened(M) to your servants the prophets,(N) who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors,(O) and to all the people of the land.

7 “Lord, you are righteous,(P) but this day we are covered with shame(Q)—the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered(R) us because of our unfaithfulness(S) to you.(T) 8 We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you.(U) 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,(V) even though we have rebelled against him;(W) 10 we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.(X) 11 All Israel has transgressed(Y) your law(Z) and turned away, refusing to obey you.

“Therefore the curses(AA) and sworn judgments(AB) written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned(AC) against you. 12 You have fulfilled(AD) the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster.(AE) Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like(AF) what has been done to Jerusalem.(AG) 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord(AH) our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.(AI) 14 The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster(AJ) on us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does;(AK) yet we have not obeyed him.(AL)

15 “Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand(AM) and who made for yourself a name(AN) that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16 Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts,(AO) turn away(AP) your anger and your wrath(AQ) from Jerusalem,(AR) your city, your holy hill.(AS) Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn(AT) to all those around us.

17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor(AU) on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear,(AV) our God, and hear;(AW) open your eyes and see(AX) the desolation of the city that bears your Name.(AY) We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.(AZ) 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive!(BA) Lord, hear and act! For your sake,(BB) my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

The Seventy “Sevens”

20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing(BC) my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill(BD)— 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel,(BE) the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.(BF) 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.(BG) 23 As soon as you began to pray,(BH) a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.(BI) Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision:(BJ)

24 “Seventy ‘sevens’[c] are decreed for your people and your holy city(BK) to finish[d] transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone(BL) for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness,(BM) to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.[e]

25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild(BN) Jerusalem until the Anointed One,[f](BO) the ruler,(BP) comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.(BQ) 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death(BR) and will have nothing.[g] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood:(BS) War will continue until the end, and desolations(BT) have been decreed.(BU) 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’[h] In the middle of the ‘seven’[i] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple[j] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed(BV) is poured out on him.[k]”[l]

Daniel Prays for His People

9 Darius the Mede, who was the son of Xerxes, ruled over the kingdom of Babylonia. 2 (A)In the first year of his reign I was studying the sacred books and thinking about the seventy years that Jerusalem would be in ruins, according to what the Lord had told the prophet Jeremiah. 3 And I prayed earnestly to the Lord God, pleading with him, fasting, wearing sackcloth, and sitting in ashes. 4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed the sins of my people.

I said, “Lord God, you are great, and we honor you. You are faithful to your covenant and show constant love to those who love you and do what you command.

5 “We have sinned, we have been evil, we have done wrong. We have rejected what you commanded us to do and have turned away from what you showed us was right. 6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our rulers, our ancestors, and our whole nation. 7 (B)You, Lord, always do what is right, but we have always brought disgrace on ourselves. This is true of all of us who live in Judea and in Jerusalem and of all the Israelites whom you scattered in countries near and far because they were unfaithful to you. 8 Our kings, our rulers, and our ancestors have acted shamefully and sinned against you, Lord. 9 You are merciful and forgiving, although we have rebelled against you. 10 We did not listen to you, O Lord our God, when you told us to live according to the laws which you gave us through your servants the prophets. 11 (C)All Israel broke your laws and refused to listen to what you said. We sinned against you, and so you brought on us the curses that are written in the Law of Moses, your servant. 12 You did what you said you would do to us and our rulers. You punished Jerusalem more severely than any other city on earth, 13 giving us all the punishment described in the Law of Moses. But even now, O Lord our God, we have not tried to please you by turning from our sins or by following your truth. 14 You, O Lord our God, were prepared to punish us, and you did, because you always do what is right, and we did not listen to you.

15 (D)“O Lord our God, you showed your power by bringing your people out of Egypt, and your power is still remembered. We have sinned; we have done wrong. 16 You have defended us in the past, so do not be angry with Jerusalem any longer. It is your city, your sacred hill.[a] All the people in the neighboring countries look down on Jerusalem and on your people because of our sins and the evil our ancestors did. 17 (E)O God, hear my prayer and pleading. Restore your Temple, which has been destroyed; restore it so that everyone will know that you are God. 18 (F)Listen to us, O God; look at us and see the trouble we are in and the suffering of the city that bears your name. We are praying to you because you are merciful, not because we have done right. 19 Lord, hear us. Lord, forgive us. Lord, listen to us, and act! In order that everyone will know that you are God, do not delay! This city and these people are yours.”

Gabriel Explains the Prophecy

20 I went on praying, confessing my sins and the sins of my people Israel and pleading with the Lord my God to restore his holy Temple. 21 (G)While I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came flying down to where I was. It was the time for the evening sacrifice to be offered. 22 He explained, “Daniel, I have come here to help you understand the prophecy. 23 When you began to plead with God, he answered you. He loves you, and so I have come to tell you the answer. Now pay attention while I explain the vision.

24 “Seven times seventy years is the length of time God has set for freeing your people and your holy city from sin and evil. Sin will be forgiven and eternal justice established, so that the vision and the prophecy will come true, and the holy Temple[b] will be rededicated. 25 Note this and understand it: From the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until God's chosen leader comes, seven times seven years will pass. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, and will stand for seven times sixty-two years, but this will be a time of troubles. 26 And at the end of that time God's chosen leader will be killed unjustly.[c] The city and the Temple will be destroyed by the invading army of a powerful ruler. The end will come like a flood, bringing the war and destruction which God has prepared. 27 (H)That ruler will have a firm agreement with many people for seven years, and when half this time is past, he will put an end to sacrifices and offerings. The Awful Horror[d] will be placed on the highest point of the Temple and will remain there until the one who put it there meets the end which God has prepared for him.”
