Las setenta semanas de años

9 El año primero de Darío, hijo de Asuero, de ascendencia meda y rey del imperio caldeo, 2 el año primero de su reinado, yo, Daniel, estuve investigando en las Escrituras sobre los setenta años que tenía que permanecer Jerusalén en ruinas, según la palabra dirigida por el Señor al profeta Jeremías. 3 Me dirigí al Señor, mi Dios, implorándole con oraciones y súplicas, ayunando, vestido de sayal y cubierto de ceniza. 4 Supliqué al Señor, mi Dios, con la siguiente confesión:

— Señor, Dios grande y terrible, que conservas la alianza y la fidelidad con todos los que te aman y guardan tus mandamientos. 5 Hemos pecado y cometido maldades. Somos culpables, pues nos hemos rebelado y hemos abandonado tus mandamientos y tu ley. 6 No hicimos caso a tus siervos, los profetas, que hablaban en tu nombre a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros antepasados y a toda la gente del país. 7 Tú, Señor, eres justo, mientras que nosotros, la gente de Judá, los habitantes de Jerusalén y todo Israel, los de cerca y los de lejos, en todos los países por donde nos dispersaste a causa de nuestra infidelidad hacia ti, nos encontramos ahora cubiertos de vergüenza. 8 Señor, tanto nosotros como nuestros reyes, nuestros príncipes y nuestros antepasados estamos cubiertos de vergüenza, pues sabemos que hemos pecado contra ti. 9 El Señor, nuestro Dios, es compasivo y clemente, aunque nos hayamos rebelado contra él 10 al no obedecer al Señor, nuestro Dios, ni seguir las leyes que nos dio a través de sus siervos los profetas. 11 Israel en masa ha transgredido tu ley, te ha dado la espalda y no te ha obedecido.

Por haber pecado contra ti, han caído sobre nosotros las maldiciones y amenazas escritas en la ley de Moisés, siervo de Dios. 12 Cumpliste las palabras pronunciadas contra nosotros y contra nuestros gobernantes, desencadenando contra nosotros una calamidad de tales dimensiones que lo que le ocurrió a Jerusalén nunca antes había ocurrido bajo el cielo. 13 Nos ha alcanzado esta calamidad conforme a lo escrito en la ley de Moisés, pues no hemos aplacado al Señor, nuestro Dios, abandonando nuestras iniquidades y reconociendo tu fidelidad. 14 El Señor no dudó en desencadenar contra nosotros esta calamidad, ya que el Señor, nuestro Dios, actúa siempre con justicia, pero nosotros no le hemos obedecido.

15 Ahora, Señor Dios nuestro, que sacaste a tu pueblo de Egipto con gran poder, ganándote así una fama que todavía perdura, confesamos que hemos pecado y actuado injustamente. 16 Señor, en vista de la justicia que manifiestas en tus acciones, aparta tu ira y tu cólera de Jerusalén, que es tu ciudad, tu monte santo. Nuestros pecados y las iniquidades de nuestros antepasados han convertido a Jerusalén y a tu pueblo en objeto de escarnio entre nuestros vecinos. 17 Escucha, Dios nuestro, la plegaria y las súplicas de tu siervo. Por tu honor, Señor, mira con buenos ojos tu santuario desolado. 18 Señor, presta atención y escucha; abre los ojos y contempla la desolación de la ciudad en la que se invoca tu nombre. No te presentamos nuestras súplicas porque seamos justos, sino confiados en la grandeza de tu misericordia.

19 ¡Escúchanos, Señor! ¡Perdónanos, Señor! ¡Atiende y actúa sin tardanza, Señor! Hazlo por tu honor, Dios mío, pues tu ciudad y tu pueblo invocan tu nombre.

Interpretación de la profecía

20 Estaba yo hablando y orando, confesando mi pecado y el de mi pueblo Israel, pidiendo al Señor, mi Dios, que actuase a favor de su monte santo; 21 todavía estaba yo orando, cuando Gabriel, aquel a quien había visto antes en una visión, se me acercó volando ágilmente a la hora de la ofrenda vespertina. 22 Al llegar, me dijo:

— Daniel, acabo de salir para ayudarte a discernir las cosas. 23 Tan pronto como empezaste a orar, se produjo la respuesta, y he venido a comunicártela, pues eres una persona muy apreciada. Así pues, atiende al mensaje y entiende la visión: 24 Han sido fijadas setenta semanas para que tu pueblo y tu ciudad santa pongan fin al delito, acaben con los pecados, expíen su culpa, establezcan una justicia eterna, sellen la visión y la profecía y consagren el lugar santísimo.

25 Entérate y entiende bien esto: desde que se promulgó el decreto de restaurar y reconstruir Jerusalén hasta la llegada de un príncipe ungido, pasarán siete semanas y sesenta y dos semanas. Será reconstruida con sus calles y fosos, pero en momentos difíciles. 26 Después de las sesenta y dos semanas, el ungido será eliminado. Las tropas de un príncipe que llegará después destruirán la ciudad y el santuario. Su fin será una catástrofe, pero hasta entonces habrá guerras, pues han sido decretadas devastaciones. 27 Pactará con muchos una alianza firme durante una semana; y a la mitad de la semana pondrá fin al sacrificio y a la ofrenda. En un ala [del Templo] implantará la abominación devastadora hasta que el final decretado se abata sobre el devastador.

9 «Era el primer año del reinado de Darío, hijo de Asuero[a] y descendiente de los medos, quien llegó a ser el gobernante del reino de los babilonios.[b] 2 En su primer año de reinado, yo, Daniel, comprendí ese pasaje de las Escrituras[c] donde el Señor comunicó al profeta Jeremías que la ruina de Jerusalén duraría setenta años. 3 Entonces me puse a orar y a dirigir mis súplicas al Señor mi Dios. Además de orar, ayuné y me vestí de luto y me senté sobre cenizas.

4 »Esta fue la oración y confesión que hice al Señor:

»“Señor, Dios grande y temible, que cumples tu pacto de fidelidad con los que te aman y obedecen tus mandamientos: 5 Hemos pecado y hecho lo malo; hemos sido malvados y rebeldes; nos hemos apartado de tus mandamientos y de tus leyes. 6 No hemos prestado atención a tus siervos los profetas que, en tu nombre, hablaron a nuestros reyes y príncipes, a nuestros antepasados y a todos los habitantes de la tierra.

7 »”Señor, tuya es la justicia y nuestra es la vergüenza. Sí, nosotros, pueblo de Judá, habitantes de Jerusalén y de todo Israel, tanto los que vivimos cerca como los que se hallan lejos, en todos los países por los que nos has dispersado por haberte sido infieles. 8 Señor, tanto nosotros como nuestros reyes y príncipes, y nuestros antepasados, cargamos con la vergüenza por haber pecado contra ti. 9 Pero aun cuando nos hemos rebelado contra ti, tú, Señor nuestro, eres un Dios compasivo y perdonador.

10 »”Señor y Dios nuestro, no hemos obedecido ni seguido tus leyes, las cuales nos diste por medio de tus siervos los profetas. 11 Todo Israel ha transgredido tu Ley y se alejaron cuando rechazaron obedecerte. Por eso, las maldiciones y los juicios escritos en la Ley de Moisés, siervo de Dios, han sido derramadas sobre nosotros, porque pecamos contra ti. 12 Tú has cumplido las advertencias que hiciste a nuestros gobernantes y a nosotros; has traído sobre nosotros esta gran calamidad. Jamás ha ocurrido bajo el cielo nada semejante a lo que sucedió con Jerusalén.

13 »”Señor y Dios nuestro, todo este desastre nos ha sobrevenido, tal y como está escrito en la Ley de Moisés, y ni aun así hemos buscado tu favor. No nos hemos apartado de nuestros pecados ni hemos prestado atención a tu verdad.

14 »”El Señor no dudó en traer sobre nosotros esta calamidad; porque el Señor nuestro Dios es justo en todo lo que hace, y aun así no obedecimos.

15 »”Y ahora, Señor y Dios nuestro, que con mano poderosa sacaste de Egipto a tu pueblo y te has hecho un nombre que permanece hasta este día, nosotros hemos pecado y hecho lo malo. 16 Señor, de acuerdo con tus actos justos, por favor aparta tu ira y tu furor de Jerusalén, tu ciudad y tu monte santo. Por nuestros pecados y por la iniquidad de nuestros antepasados, Jerusalén y tu pueblo son objeto de burla de cuantos nos rodean.

17 »”Y ahora, Dios nuestro, escucha las oraciones y súplicas de este siervo tuyo. Por causa de tu nombre, Señor, haz resplandecer tu rostro sobre[d] tu santuario que ha quedado desolado. 18 Préstanos oído, Dios nuestro; abre los ojos y mira nuestra ruina y la ciudad sobre la cual se invoca tu Nombre. Al hacerte estas peticiones, no apelamos a nuestra rectitud, sino a tu gran misericordia. 19 ¡Señor, escúchanos! ¡Señor, perdónanos! ¡Señor, atiéndenos y actúa! Dios mío, hazlo por tu honor y no tardes más; tu Nombre se invoca sobre tu ciudad y sobre tu pueblo”.

Las setenta semanas

20 »Yo seguí hablando y orando al Señor mi Dios. Le confesé mi pecado y el de mi pueblo Israel y supliqué en favor de su santo monte. 21 Mientras seguía orando, Gabriel, a quien había visto en mi visión anterior, se me acercó volando rápidamente, como a la hora del sacrificio de la tarde. 22 Me hizo la siguiente aclaración:

»“Daniel, he venido en este momento para que entiendas todo con claridad. 23 Tan pronto como comenzaste a orar, hubo una respuesta que vine a decirte, porque eres muy apreciado. Presta, pues, atención a mis palabras, para que entiendas la visión.

24 »”Setenta semanas[e] han sido decretadas para que tu pueblo y tu santa ciudad pongan fin a las transgresiones y pecados, pidan perdón por la maldad, establezcan para siempre la justicia, sellen la visión y la profecía y consagren el Lugar Santísimo.[f]

25 »”Entiende bien lo siguiente: Habrá siete semanas desde la promulgación del decreto que ordena la reconstrucción de Jerusalén hasta la llegada del Príncipe Ungido. Luego habrá sesenta y dos semanas más. Entonces será reconstruida Jerusalén, con sus calles y trincheras, pero en tiempos difíciles. 26 Después de las sesenta y dos semanas se le quitará la vida al Ungido y se quedará sin nada. La ciudad y el santuario serán destruidos por el pueblo de un príncipe que vendrá. El fin vendrá como una inundación, la destrucción no cesará[g] hasta que termine la guerra. 27 Durante una semana ese gobernante hará un pacto con muchos, pero a media semana pondrá fin a los sacrificios y ofrendas. Daniel’s Prayer

9 In the first year of Darius(A) son of Xerxes[a](B) (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian[b] kingdom— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy(C) years. 3 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting,(D) and in sackcloth and ashes.(E)

4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:(F)

“Lord, the great and awesome God,(G) who keeps his covenant of love(H) with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned(I) and done wrong.(J) We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away(K) from your commands and laws.(L) 6 We have not listened(M) to your servants the prophets,(N) who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors,(O) and to all the people of the land.

7 “Lord, you are righteous,(P) but this day we are covered with shame(Q)—the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered(R) us because of our unfaithfulness(S) to you.(T) 8 We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you.(U) 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,(V) even though we have rebelled against him;(W) 10 we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.(X) 11 All Israel has transgressed(Y) your law(Z) and turned away, refusing to obey you.

“Therefore the curses(AA) and sworn judgments(AB) written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned(AC) against you. 12 You have fulfilled(AD) the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster.(AE) Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like(AF) what has been done to Jerusalem.(AG) 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord(AH) our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.(AI) 14 The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster(AJ) on us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does;(AK) yet we have not obeyed him.(AL)

15 “Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand(AM) and who made for yourself a name(AN) that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16 Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts,(AO) turn away(AP) your anger and your wrath(AQ) from Jerusalem,(AR) your city, your holy hill.(AS) Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn(AT) to all those around us.

17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor(AU) on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear,(AV) our God, and hear;(AW) open your eyes and see(AX) the desolation of the city that bears your Name.(AY) We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.(AZ) 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive!(BA) Lord, hear and act! For your sake,(BB) my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

The Seventy “Sevens”

20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing(BC) my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill(BD)— 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel,(BE) the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.(BF) 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.(BG) 23 As soon as you began to pray,(BH) a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.(BI) Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision:(BJ)

24 “Seventy ‘sevens’[c] are decreed for your people and your holy city(BK) to finish[d] transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone(BL) for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness,(BM) to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.[e]

25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild(BN) Jerusalem until the Anointed One,[f](BO) the ruler,(BP) comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.(BQ) 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death(BR) and will have nothing.[g] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood:(BS) War will continue until the end, and desolations(BT) have been decreed.(BU) 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’[h] In the middle of the ‘seven’[i] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple[j] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed(BV) is poured out on him.[k]”[l]

Daniel’s Prayer of Supplication

9 In the first year of (A)Darius the son of Ahasuerus, from the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, discerned in the books the (B)number of the years concerning which the word of [a]Yahweh came to (C)Jeremiah the prophet for the fulfillment of the laying waste of Jerusalem, namely, (D)seventy years. 3 So I gave my face to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4 And I prayed to Yahweh my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the (E)great and awesome God, who (F)keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 5 (G)we have sinned and committed iniquity and acted wickedly and (H)rebelled, even (I)turning aside from Your commandments and judgments. 6 Moreover, we have not (J)listened to Your slaves the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land.

7 “(K)To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us [b](L)open shame, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in (M)all the countries to which You have banished them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You. 8 O Yahweh, to us belongs [c]open shame, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 To the Lord our God belong (N)compassion and forgiveness, [d]for we have (O)rebelled against Him; 10 nor have we listened to the voice of Yahweh our God, to walk in His [e]laws which He (P)put before us through His slaves the prophets. 11 Indeed (Q)all Israel has trespassed against Your law, even turning aside, not listening to Your voice; so the (R)curse has been poured out on us, along with the oath which is written in the [f]law of Moses the [g]servant of God, for we have sinned against Him. 12 Thus He has (S)established His words which He had spoken against us and against our (T)judges who judged us, to bring on us great calamity; for under the whole heaven there has (U)not been done anything like what was done to Jerusalem. 13 As it is written in the [h](V)law of Moses, all this calamity has come on us; yet we have (W)not [i]entreated the favor of Yahweh our God by (X)turning from our iniquity and acting wisely in Your truth. 14 Therefore Yahweh has (Y)watched over the calamity and brought it on us; for Yahweh our God is (Z)righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not listened to His voice.

15 “So now, O Lord our God, who have (AA)brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand and have (AB)made a name for Yourself, as it is this day—we have sinned; we have acted wickedly. 16 O Lord, in accordance with all Your righteousness, let now Your (AC)anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your (AD)holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a (AE)reproach to all those around us. 17 So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your slave and to his supplications, and for [j]Your sake, O Lord, (AF)let Your face shine on Your (AG)desolate sanctuary. 18 O my God, (AH)incline Your ear and listen! Open Your eyes and (AI)see our desolations and the city which is (AJ)called by Your name; for we are not [k](AK)presenting our supplications before You on account of any righteousness of our own, but on account of Your abundant compassion. 19 O Lord, listen! Gabriel Brings Understanding

20 Now while I was (AM)speaking and praying, and (AN)confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and [l]presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, 21 and while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man (AO)Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision [m]previously, [n]touched me [o]in my extreme weariness about the time of the (AP)evening offering. 22 Then he made me understand and spoke with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with (AQ)understanding. 23 At the (AR)beginning of your supplications the word was issued, so I have come to tell you, for you are [p](AS)highly esteemed; so understand the message and gain (AT)understanding in what has appeared.

Seventy Weeks and the Messiah

24 “Seventy [q](AU)weeks have been determined for your people and for your holy city, to [r]finish the transgression, to [s]make an end of sin, to (AV)make atonement for iniquity, to bring in (AW)everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and [t]prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies. 25 So you are to know and have insight that from the going out of a [u](AX)word to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until [v](AY)Messiah the (AZ)Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be restored and rebuilt, with [w]plaza and moat, even in times of distress. 26 Then after the sixty-two weeks the [x]Messiah will be (BA)cut off and have [y]nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will (BB)destroy the city and the sanctuary. And [z]its end will come with a (BC)flood; even to the end [aa]there will be war; desolations are decreed. 27 And he will make a [ab]firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will make sacrifice and grain offering cease; and on the wing of [ac](BD)abominations will come one who [ad]makes desolate, even until a (BE)complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who [ae]makes desolate.”

2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;

10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.

13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

14 Therefore hath the Lord watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the Lord our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.

15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.

17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.

19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;

21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
