Ang Pangitain tungkol sa Barakong Tupa at Kambing

8 Nang ikatlong taon ng paghahari ni Belsazar, akong si Daniel ay nagkaroon ng ikalawang pangitain.[a] 2 Sa pangitaing iyon ako'y nasa pampang ng Ilog Ulai, sa napapaderang lunsod ng Susa, lalawigan ng Elam. 3 Nakita kong nakatayo sa pampang ng ilog ang isang barakong tupa. May dalawang sungay ito na parehong mahaba ngunit mas mahaba ang sungay na huling tumubo. 4 Nakita kong ito'y nanunuwag pakanluran, pahilaga, at patimog. Walang ibang hayop na makalaban sa kanya, ni walang makalapit upang saklolohan ang sinumang daluhungin nito. Nagagawa niya ang gusto niyang gawin, kaya naging palalo siya.

5 Habang ito'y pinagmamasdan ko, isang barakong kambing ang sumulpot na humahagibis mula sa kanluran na hindi na halos sumasayad sa lupa ang mga paa. Kapansin-pansin ang sungay nito sa pagitan ng dalawang mata. 6 Galit na galit na sinugod niya ang barakong tupa na nakita kong nakatayo sa pampang ng ilog. 7 Walang pakundangan niya itong pinagsusuwag hanggang sa mabali ang dalawang sungay ng tupa. Hindi naman ito makalaban. Ibinuwal ito ng kambing at niyurakan. Walang makasaklolo sa tupa.

8 Kaya naging palalo ang barakong kambing. Nang nasa sukdulan na ang kanyang lakas, nabali ang sungay niyang malaki ngunit may pumalit na apat na kapansin-pansing sungay na nakatutok sa iba't ibang apat na direksiyon ng kalangitan. 9 Ang isa sa apat niyang sungay ay nagkaroon ng maliit na sanga. Ito ay lumaki nang lumaki hanggang umabot sa timog, sa silangan at sa lupang pangako. 10 Umabot(A) ang kapangyarihan nito hanggang sa kalangitan, at pinabagsak sa lupa ang ilan sa mga bituin at tinapakan ang mga iyon. 11 Kaya naging sobrang yabang ang maliit na sungay at kinalaban nito pati ang pinuno ng hukbo ng kalangitan. Inalis nito ang araw-araw na paghahandog at winasak ang dakong doo'y sinasamba ang pinuno ng hukbo ng kalangitan. 12 Dinaig din nito ang hukbo ng kalangitan at ang araw-araw na paghahandog ay napalitan ng kasamaan. Ang katotohanan ay niyurakan at nagawa ng sungay ang lahat ng gusto niyang gawin. 13 May narinig akong nag-uusap na dalawang anghel. Ang tanong ng isa, “Hanggang kailan tatagal ang mga pangyayaring ito sa pangitain? Hanggang kailan tatagal ang pagpigil sa araw-araw na paghahandog, ang paghahari ng kasamaan, at ang pagyurak sa Templo at sa hukbo ng kalangitan?”

14 “Mangyayari ang mga ito sa loob ng 2,300 gabi at umaga. Pagkatapos, muling itatalaga at gagamitin ang Templo,” sagot ng ikalawa.

Ipinaliwanag ni Gabriel ang Pangitain

15 Habang akong si Daniel na nakakita ng pangitaing ito ay nagsisikap na maunawaan ang kahulugan nito, biglang lumitaw sa harapan ko ang tulad ng isang tao. 16 At(B) mula sa pampang ng Ilog Ulai ay narinig ko ang isang tinig ng tao na nagsabi, “Gabriel, ipaliwanag mo sa taong ito ang pangitain.” 17 Nang lumapit siya sa akin, dumapa ako sa lupa dahil sa matinding takot.

Sinabi niya sa akin, “Tao, unawain mo ito: ang pangitain ay tungkol sa katapusan ng panahon.”

18 Samantalang nagsasalita siya, walang malay-tao akong bumagsak sa lupa. Ngunit hinawakan at itinayo niya ako. 19 Sinabi niya sa akin, “Sasabihin ko sa iyo kung ano ang mangyayari sa katapusan ng panahon kapag ipinakita na ng Diyos ang kanyang poot. 20 Ang dalawang sungay ng barakong tupa na nakita mo ay ang mga hari ng Media at Persia. 21 Ang barakong kambing ay ang hari ng Grecia at ang malaking sungay sa pagitan ng kanyang mga mata ay ang unang hari. 22 Tungkol naman sa apat na sungay na humalili sa unang sungay, nangangahulugan itong mahahati sa apat ang kaharian ngunit hindi magiging makapangyarihang tulad noong una. 23 Sa bandang huli, kapag nasa sukdulan na ang kanilang kasamaan, isang malupit at tusong hari ang lilitaw. 24 Magiging makapangyarihan siya at katatakutan ng lahat sapagkat magagawa niya ang lahat niyang magustuhan; lulupigin niya pati ang malalakas at ang mga hinirang ng Diyos. 25 Dahil sa kanyang katusuhan, lahat ng balakin niya ay magtatagumpay. Magiging palalo siya at walang pakundangan niyang yuyurakan ang marami. Walang sinumang taong makakahadlang sa kanya; pati ang Pinuno ng mga pinuno ay lalabanan niya. Ngunit pababagsakin siya hindi sa pamamagitan ng kapangyarihan ng tao. 26 Ang pangitaing nakita mo tungkol sa paghahandog sa gabi at sa umaga ay totoo ngunit ilihim mo muna ito sapagkat matatagalan pa bago ito maganap.”

27 Akong si Daniel ay nanghina at nagkasakit nang ilang araw. Pagkatapos, nagbalik ako sa gawain ko sa palasyo ng hari. Nabagabag ako ng pangitaing iyon sapagkat hindi ko iyon maunawaan.

Het visoen van de ram en de geitenbok

8 In het derde regeringsjaar van koning Belsazar kreeg ik weer een visioen. 2 In dit visioen was ik in Susan, de hoofdstad van het gewest Elam, ik zag mijzelf naast de rivier de Ulai staan. 3 Toen ik om mij heen keek, zag ik een ram met twee lange horens aan de rivier staan. Een van de horens was langer dan de andere, hoewel hij later opkwam. 4 De ram stootte naar het westen, het noorden en het zuiden en niemand kon tegen hem standhouden of zijn slachtoffers redden. Hij deed wat hij wilde en werd erg groot. 5 Terwijl ik geboeid toekeek, verscheen plotseling een geitenbok vanuit het westen. Hij bewoog zich zo snel over de hele aarde voort dat zijn poten de grond zelfs niet raakten. Deze bok had een opvallende hoorn tussen zijn ogen. 6 Hij kwam bij de ram met de twee horens en stormde woest op hem af. 7 Hij viel de ram woedend aan en brak daarbij diens beide horens. De ram was nu hulpeloos en de geitenbok sloeg hem tegen de grond en vertrapte hem. En niemand deed een poging de ram te redden.

8 De geitenbok werd trots en machtig, maar op het toppunt van zijn macht brak plotseling zijn grote hoorn af en op die plaats kwamen vier opvallende horens op. Zij waren gericht naar de vier windstreken. 9 Een van hen, die klein begon, werd al gauw buitengewoon sterk. Hij viel het zuiden en het oosten aan en vocht ook tegen Israël. 10 Hij reikte tot aan de hemelse machten en haalde een deel ervan neer en vertrapte het. 11 Hij waagde het bovendien de vorst van het hemelse leger uit te dagen door het dagelijkse offer dat aan Hem werd gebracht, af te schaffen en bovendien zijn tempel te ontwijden. 12 Het heiligdom en het dagelijks offer werden het slachtoffer van de wetteloosheid. Daardoor verdwenen waarheid en rechtvaardigheid en triomfeerde het kwaad.

13 Daarna hoorde ik twee heilige engelen met elkaar praten. Een van hen zei: ‘Hoelang zal het nog duren voor het dagelijkse offer weer in ere wordt hersteld? Wanneer zal de ontwijding van de tempel ophouden en Gods volk triomferen?’ 14 De ander antwoordde: ‘Pas over drieĂ«ntwintighonderd dagen zal het heiligdom in ere worden hersteld.’

15 Terwijl ik, DaniĂ«l, dit visioen zag en het probeerde te begrijpen, stond er plotseling een man voor mij. Tenminste, hij zag eruit als een man. 16 Ik hoorde een menselijke stem van over de rivier de Ulai roepen: ‘GabriĂ«l, vertel hem wat het visioen betekent.’ 17 Hij liep op mij af en van schrik wierp ik mij languit op de grond. ‘Mensenkind,’ zei hij, ‘u moet begrijpen dat dit visioen betrekking heeft op de eindtijd.’ 18 Terwijl hij dat zei, verloor ik het bewustzijn. Hij raakte mij echter aan en hielp mij overeind. 19 ‘Ik ben gekomen,’ zei hij, ‘om u te vertellen wat er gaat gebeuren als de tijd van Gods toorn ten einde loopt. Want wat u hebt gezien, gaat over het vastgestelde tijdstip van het einde. 20 De twee horens van de ram die u hebt gezien, zijn de koningen van MediĂ« en PerziĂ«. 21 De harige geitenbok is de koning van Griekenland en de lange hoorn tussen zijn ogen verbeeldt de eerste grote koning. 22 Daarna zag u dat de eerste hoorn werd afgebroken en dat vier anderen in zijn plaats kwamen. Dit betekent dat het rijk in vier koninkrijken zal uiteenvallen. Maar geen van hen zal zo sterk zijn als het eerste. 23 Deze koninkrijken laten, kort voor zij ten val komen, de boosdoeners de maat vol maken. Dan zal een andere koning aan de macht komen, een hardvochtig en listig man. 24 Hij zal grote kracht bezitten, maar het zal niet zijn eigen kracht zijn. Hij zal ongehoorde verwoestingen aanrichten en wat hij ook doet, het lukt hem allemaal. Hij zal machtige tegenstanders overwinnen en ook het heilige volk te gronde richten. 25 Meester-misleider als hij is, zal hij op drieste wijze velen ombrengen. Hij zal het zelfs wagen de strijd aan te binden met de vorst der vorsten, maar bezegelt daarmee zijn ondergang. Hij zal omkomen, maar niet door toedoen van mensen. 26 En dit visioen over de hoeveelheid dagen is betrouwbaar. Vertel niemand iets over dit visioen, want het gaat over een verre toekomst.’

27 Toen was ik uitgeput en lag enige dagen ziek op bed. Daarna stond ik op en hervatte mijn dienst bij de koning. Ik was verbijsterd over het visioen, maar kon er met niemand over spreken.

8 In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

2 And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

6 And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.

7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.

8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.

9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.

10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down.

12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.

18 Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.

19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.

20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.

23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

8 Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it (F)four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven. 9 (G)And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, (H)toward the east, and toward the (I)Glorious Land. 10 (J)And it grew up to (K)the host of heaven; and (L)it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11 (M)He even exalted himself as high as (N)the Prince of the host; (O)and by him (P)the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of [f]His sanctuary was cast down. 12 Because of transgression, (Q)an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast (R)truth down to the ground. 13 Then I heard (T)a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who was speaking, “How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices and the transgression [g]of desolation, the giving of both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled underfoot?”

14 And he said to me, “For two thousand three hundred [h]days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.”

Gabriel Interprets the Vision

15 Then it happened, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision and (U)was seeking the meaning, that suddenly there stood before me (V)one having the appearance of a man. 16 And I heard a man’s voice (W)between the banks of the Ulai, who called, and said, (X)“Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” 17 So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and (Y)fell on my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.”

18 (Z)Now, as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep with my face to the ground; (AA)but he touched me, and stood me upright. 19 And he said, “Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time of the indignation; (AB)for at the appointed time the end shall be. 20 The ram which you saw, having the two horns—they are the kings of Media and Persia. 21 And the [i]male goat is the [j]kingdom of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes (AC)is the first king. 22 (AD)As for the broken horn and the four that stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation, but not with its power.

23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom,
When the transgressors have reached their fullness,
A king shall arise,
(AE)Having fierce [k]features,
Who understands sinister schemes.
24 His power shall be mighty, (AF)but not by his own power;
He shall destroy [l]fearfully,
(AG)And shall prosper and thrive;
(AH)He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.

25 “Through(AI) his cunning
He shall cause deceit to prosper under his [m]rule;
(AJ)And he shall exalt himself in his heart.
He shall destroy many in their prosperity.
(AK)He shall even rise against the Prince of princes;
But he shall be (AL)broken without human [n]means.

26 “And the vision of the evenings and mornings
Which was told is true;
(AM)Therefore seal up the vision,
For it refers to many days in the future.”

27 (AN)And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days; afterward I arose and went about the king’s business. I was [o]astonished by the vision, but no one understood it.

Daniel’s Vision of a Ram and a Goat

8 In the third year of King Belshazzar’s(A) reign, I, Daniel, had a vision,(B) after the one that had already appeared to me. 2 In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa(C) in the province of Elam;(D) in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal. 3 I looked up,(E) and there before me was a ram(F) with two horns, standing beside the canal, and the horns were long. One of the horns was longer than the other but grew up later. 4 I watched the ram as it charged toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against it, and none could rescue from its power.(G) It did as it pleased(H) and became great.

5 As I was thinking about this, suddenly a goat with a prominent horn between its eyes came from the west, crossing the whole earth without touching the ground. 6 It came toward the two-horned ram I had seen standing beside the canal and charged at it in great rage. 7 I saw it attack the ram furiously, striking the ram and shattering its two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against it; the goat knocked it to the ground and trampled on it,(I) and none could rescue the ram from its power.(J) 8 The goat became very great, but at the height of its power the large horn was broken off,(K) and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.(L)

9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small(M) but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land.(N) 10 It grew until it reached(O) the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth(P) and trampled(Q) on them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander(R) of the army of the Lord;(S) it took away the daily sacrifice(T) from the Lord, and his sanctuary was thrown down.(U) 12 Because of rebellion, the Lord’s people[a] and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground.(V)

13 Then I heard a holy one(W) speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled(X)—the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the sanctuary and the trampling underfoot(Y) of the Lord’s people?”

14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”(Z)

The Interpretation of the Vision

15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision(AA) and trying to understand it, there before me stood one who looked like a man.(AB) 16 And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai(AC) calling, “Gabriel,(AD) tell this man the meaning of the vision.”(AE)

17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate.(AF) “Son of man,”[b] he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”(AG)

18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.(AH) Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.(AI)

19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath,(AJ) because the vision concerns the appointed time(AK) of the end.[c](AL) 20 The two-horned ram that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.(AM) 21 The shaggy goat is the king of Greece,(AN) and the large horn between its eyes is the first king.(AO) 22 The four horns that replaced the one that was broken off represent four kingdoms that will emerge from his nation but will not have the same power.

23 “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise. 24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people.(AP) 25 He will cause deceit(AQ) to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes.(AR) Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.(AS)

26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true,(AT) but seal(AU) up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”(AV)

27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted(AW) for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business.(AX) I was appalled(AY) by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
