8 In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.
2 And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.
3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
6 And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.
7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.
11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down.
12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.
13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.
18 Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.
20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

8 In the shnat shalosh (third year) of the reign of Belshatzar HaMelech, a chazon (vision) appeared unto me, Daniel, after that which appeared unto me in the beginning.
2 And I beheld in a chazon; and it came to pass, while I was seeing, that I was in Shushan (Susa) the fortress, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a chazon, and I was by the stream Ulai.
3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, hinei, there stood before the stream a ram which had two karnayim (horns), and the two karnayim were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher was coming up last.
4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no chayyot (beasts) might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and made a great display of strength.
5 And as I was considering, hinei, a he-goat was coming from the west on the face of kol ha’aretz, and it was not touching the earth; and as to the goat it had a conspicuous keren (horn) between its eyes.
6 And he came to the ram that had two karnayim, which I had seen standing before the stream, and he ran against him with the wrath of his koach (strength).
7 And I saw him approaching the ram, and he was enraged against him, and he smote the ram, broke his two karnayim, and there was no koach in the ram to stand before him, and he cast him down to the ground, and trampled him; there was none to deliver the ram from him.
8 Therefore the he-goat was acting very presumptuously; and when he was powerful, the keren hagedolah (great horn, [i.e., Alexander’s Empire]) was broken; and in the place of it came up conspicuously four, toward the arbah ruchot HaShomayim (the four winds of Heaven).
9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn [Antiochus Epiphanes], which became exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the [eretz] hatzevi (the glorious land, [i.e., Eretz Israel]).
10 And it became great, even unto the tzva HaShomayim; and it caused to fall down to the earth some of the host and some of the kokhavim it trampled.
11 Yea, he magnified himself even unto the Sar HaTzava, and the daily sacrifice was taken away from Him, and the place of His Mikdash was cast down.
12 And a tzva (army) was given over to oppose the daily sacrifice on account of peysha (transgression, rebellion), and it cast down emes to the ground; and it acted, and prospered.
13 Then I heard one kadosh (angel) speaking, and another kadosh said unto that certain kadosh which spoke, How long shall be the chazon concerning the daily sacrifice, and the desolating peysha (transgression), to give both the Kodesh (Sanctuary) and the tzva (host) to be trodden under foot?
14 And he said unto me, Unto erev-boker two thousand and three hundred; then shall the Kodesh (Sanctuary) be vindicated.
15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, was beholding the chazon, that I sought the meaning; then, hinei, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a kol adam (man’s voice) amidst the Ulai, and he called, and said, Gavriel, cause this one to understand the vision [see Daniel 9:21].
17 So he came near where I stood; and as he came, I was filled with fear, and I fell down upon my face, but he said unto me, Understand, O ben adam, the chazon (vision) points to the time of the ketz (end).
18 Now while he was speaking with me, I swooned upon my face toward the ground, but he touched me, and made me stand upright.
19 And he said, Hineni, I will cause thee to know that which shall take place in the latter part of HaZa’am (the Wrath period), since at a mo’ed (an appointed time) the Ketz (End) shall be.
20 The ram which thou sawest having two karnayim are the melachim of Media and Paras (Persia).
21 And the shaggy he-goat is melech Yavan (the king of Greece), and the keren hagedolah (great horn) that is between his eyes is the melech harishon (the first king [ i.e., Alexander]).
22 Now one being broken and four stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in its koach (strength).
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when haposhe’im (the transgressors, the ones rebelling) are come to the full, a melech of unyielding countenance, and mastering intrigues, shall stand up.
24 And his koach shall be mighty, but not by his own koach; and he shall cause astounding destruction, and shall prosper, and accomplish, and shall destroy the mighty and Am Kedoshim (the Holy People).
25 And by his cunning also he shall cause mirmah (deceit) to prosper through his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his lev, and by peace shall destroy rabbim (many); he shall also stand up against the Sar Sarim (Prince of Princes); but he shall be broken without [human] hand.
26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is emes; and thou! Shut up the chazon; for it shall be for many yamim [i.e., distant times].
27 And I Daniel was faint, and lay ill several yamim; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but without understanding it.

8 En el año tercero del reinado del rey Belsasar, se me apareció a mí, Daniel[a], una visión, después de aquella que se me había aparecido anteriormente[b]. 2 Cuando miré en la visión, sucedió que al mirar, yo me encontraba en la ciudadela de Susa(A), que está en la provincia de Elam(B), y vi en la visión que yo estaba junto al río[c](C) Ulai. 3 Alcé, pues, mis ojos y miré, y he aquí que un carnero estaba delante del río[d]. Tenía dos cuernos(D), y los dos cuernos eran altos, pero uno era más alto que el otro, y el más alto creció[e] el último. 4 Vi al carnero dando cornadas al oeste, al norte y al sur, y ninguna bestia podía mantenerse en pie delante de él, y nadie podía librarse de su poder[f](E). Hacía lo que quería, y se engrandeció(F).
5 Estando yo observando, he aquí, un macho cabrío venía del occidente sobre la superficie de toda la tierra sin tocar el suelo; el macho cabrío tenía un cuerno prominente entre los ojos(G). 6 Se dirigió al carnero que tenía los dos cuernos, que yo había visto parado delante del río[g], y lo acometió con la furia de su poder. 7 Lo vi venir junto al carnero, y enfurecido contra él, hirió al carnero y le rompió los dos cuernos, y el carnero no tenía fuerza para mantenerse en pie delante de él; lo arrojó en tierra y lo pisoteó, y no hubo nadie que librara al carnero de su poder[h]. 8 El macho cabrío se engrandeció sobremanera, pero en cuanto llegó a ser poderoso, el gran cuerno(H) se le rompió, y en su lugar le salieron cuatro cuernos(I) prominentes hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo(J).
9 Y de uno de ellos salió un cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho(K) hacia el sur, hacia el oriente y hacia la Tierra Hermosa[i](L). 10 Creció hasta el ejército del cielo, e hizo caer a la tierra parte del ejército y de las estrellas(M), y las pisoteó(N). 11 Se engrandeció hasta igualarse con el Jefe[j](O) del ejército, le quitó su sacrificio continuo(P) y fue derribado el lugar de su santuario. 12 Y el ejército será entregado al cuerno junto con el sacrificio continuo a causa de la transgresión; arrojará por tierra la verdad(Q) y hará su voluntad y prosperará. 13 Oí entonces hablar a un santo(R), y otro santo dijo al que hablaba: ¿Hasta cuándo durará la visión(S) del sacrificio continuo, de la transgresión que espanta, y de que el lugar santo y el ejército sean pisoteados(T)? 14 Y le[k] respondió: Por dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas; entonces el lugar santo será restaurado[l](U).
15 Y sucedió que después que yo, Daniel, había visto la visión(V), y trataba de comprenderla[m], he aquí, vi de pie, ante mí, uno con apariencia de hombre(W). 16 Y oí una voz de hombre entre las márgenes del Ulai, que gritaba y decía: Gabriel, explícale a este la visión(X). 17 Él se acercó adonde yo estaba, y cuando llegó, me aterroricé y caí sobre mi rostro(Y), pero él me dijo: Entiende, hijo de hombre, que la visión se refiere al tiempo del fin(Z). 18 Mientras él hablaba conmigo, caí en un sueño profundo con mi rostro en tierra(AA); él me tocó y me hizo incorporar(AB) donde yo estaba. 19 Y dijo: He aquí, te voy a dar a conocer lo que sucederá al final de la ira, porque se refiere al tiempo señalado del fin(AC). 20 El carnero que viste, con los dos cuernos(AD), representa a los reyes de Media y de Persia. 21 Y el macho cabrío peludo representa al reino[n] de Grecia, y el cuerno grande que está entre sus ojos es el primer rey. 22 Y el cuerno roto y los cuatro cuernos(AE) que salieron en su lugar representan cuatro reinos que se levantarán de su nación, pero no con su poder.
23 Y al final de su reinado[o],
cuando los transgresores se acaben,
se levantará un rey,
insolente[p] y hábil en intrigas[q].
24 Su poder será grande, pero no por su propio poder;
destruirá[r] en forma extraordinaria,
prosperará y hará su voluntad;
destruirá[s] a los poderosos y al pueblo santo[t](AF).
25 Y por su astucia
hará que el engaño prospere por su influencia[u];
él se engrandecerá en su corazón,
y destruirá[v] a muchos que están confiados[w].
Aun se levantará contra el[x] Príncipe de los príncipes(AG),
pero será destruido sin intervención humana[y](AH).
26 Y la visión de las tardes y de las mañanas
que ha sido relatada, es verdadera;
pero tú, guarda en secreto la visión(AI),
porque se refiere a muchos días aún lejanos(AJ).
27 Yo, Daniel, me sentí agotado y enfermo algunos días. Después me levanté y atendí los asuntos del rey(AK); pero yo estaba espantado a causa de la visión(AL), y no había nadie que la interpretara[z].

8 «En el tercer año del reinado de Belsasar, yo, Daniel, tuve otra visión. 2 En ella, me veía en la ciudadela de Susa, en la provincia de Elam, junto al río Ulay. 3 Me fijé, y vi ante mí un carnero con sus dos cuernos. Estaba junto al río, y tenía cuernos largos. Uno de ellos era más largo, y le había salido después.
4 »Me quedé observando cómo el carnero atacaba hacia el oeste, hacia el norte y hacia el sur. Ningún animal podía hacerle frente, ni había tampoco quien pudiera librarse de su poder. El carnero hacía lo que quería, y cada vez cobraba más fuerza.
5 »Mientras reflexionaba yo al respecto, de pronto surgió del oeste un macho cabrío, con un cuerno enorme entre los ojos, y cruzó toda la tierra sin tocar siquiera el suelo. 6 Se lanzó contra el carnero que yo había visto junto al río, y lo atacó furiosamente. 7 Yo vi cómo lo golpeó y le rompió los dos cuernos. El carnero no pudo hacerle frente, pues el macho cabrío lo derribó y lo pisoteó. Nadie pudo librar al carnero del poder del macho cabrío.
8 »El macho cabrío cobró gran fuerza, pero en el momento de su mayor grandeza se le rompió el cuerno más largo, y en su lugar brotaron cuatro grandes cuernos que se alzaron contra los cuatro vientos del cielo. 9 De uno de ellos salió otro cuerno, pequeño al principio, que extendió su poder hacia el sur y hacia el este, y también hacia nuestra hermosa tierra. 10 Creció hasta alcanzar al ejército de los cielos, derribó algunas estrellas y las pisoteó, 11 y aun llegó a sentirse más importante que el jefe del ejército de los cielos. Por causa de él se eliminó el sacrificio diario y se profanó el santuario. 12 Por la rebeldía de nuestro pueblo, su ejército echó por tierra la verdad y quitó el sacrificio diario. En fin, ese cuerno hizo y deshizo.
13 »Escuché entonces que uno de los santos hablaba, y que otro le preguntaba: “¿Cuánto más va a durar esta visión del sacrificio diario, de la rebeldía desoladora, de la entrega del santuario y de la humillación del ejército?” 14 Y aquel santo me dijo: “Va a tardar dos mil trescientos días con sus noches. Después de eso, se purificará el santuario”.
Significado de la visión
15 »Mientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba la visión y trataba de entenderla, de repente apareció ante mí alguien de apariencia humana. 16 Escuché entonces una voz que desde el río Ulay gritaba: “¡Gabriel, dile a este hombre lo que significa la visión!”
17 »Cuando Gabriel se acercó al lugar donde yo estaba, me sentí aterrorizado y caí de rodillas. Pero él me dijo: “Ten en cuenta, criatura humana,[a] que la visión tiene que ver con la hora final”.
18 »Mientras Gabriel me hablaba, yo caí en un sueño profundo, de cara al suelo. Pero él me despertó y me obligó a levantarme, 19 mientras me decía: “Voy a darte a conocer lo que sucederá cuando llegue a su fin el tiempo de la ira de Dios, porque el fin llegará en el momento señalado. 20 El carnero de dos cuernos que has visto simboliza a los reyes de Media y de Persia. 21 El macho cabrío es el rey de Grecia, y el cuerno grande que tiene entre los ojos es el primer rey. 22 Los cuatro cuernos que salieron en lugar del que fue hecho pedazos simbolizan a los cuatro reinos que surgirán de esa nación, pero que no tendrán el mismo poder.
23 »”Hacia el final de esos reinos, cuando los rebeldes lleguen al colmo de su maldad, surgirá un rey insolente, maestro de la intriga, 24 que llegará a tener mucho poder, pero no por sí mismo. Ese rey causará impresionantes destrozos y saldrá airoso en todo lo que emprenda. Destruirá a los poderosos y al pueblo santo. 25 Con su astucia propagará el engaño, creyéndose un ser superior. Destruirá a mucha gente que creía estar segura, y se enfrentará al Príncipe de los príncipes, pero será destruido sin intervención humana. 26 Esta visión de los días con sus noches, que se te ha dado a conocer, es verdadera. Pero no la hagas pública, pues para eso falta mucho tiempo”.
27 »Yo, Daniel, quedé exhausto, y durante varios días guardé cama. Luego me levanté para seguir atendiendo los asuntos del reino. Pero la visión me dejó pasmado, pues no lograba comprenderla».
